Prostate cancer confirmed unfortunately. Quite bad in right hand side of prostate, but thankfully it hasn't escaped into my bones or lymph nodes.

Seeing the specialist nurse next Monday morning, when treatment will commence with Hormone therapy (tablets and injections) and then when prostate has reduced in size by around 30% they will begin Radiotherapy - 20 sessions over a 4 week period over in Portsmouth ! Entire treatment could take between 3 to 6 months from start to finish.

Much more relaxed about it all now that everything has been explained to me fully. The consultant (Mr Jabber) obviously had a good sense of humour, as he said "Happy Christmas" to me as I left his consultancy room. Thought that was a nice touch........

PS. Any of you males out there must have a PSA blood test if you haven't already done so. Especially important if you are over say 55. I had no symptons at all, but the blood test picked it up. The nurse said that if I hadn't attended the routine blood test, then in a years time my situation could have become rather more serious <yikes>

Good luck with everything Mr Duck. I hope you get the all clear as soon as possible <ok>

You're now the third person I know on these boards who has been diagnosed. Southcoastoldgaffer on our board has just got the all clear and has a documentary made about it. You should pop over to our board and say hi, I'm sure he's got some great advice to give.

You take care woops.
I have been out with two men who have had prostate cancer .. both had it under the age of 55 .. which is rare I believe but shows it is not just something for the older man .. so you lot, all go get a PSA test on a regular basis !! Not fun I know but us women have to have our boobs squashed between glass every three years and the other screening that I won’t go into :emoticon-0104-surpr

My next door neighbour Brian who was a retired vicar had a blood test when he was in his early seventies, was diagnosed with prostate cancer but didn't act quickly enough, and the cancer cells escaped into his bones, and a few years later he passed away in quite a bad state. You must not take anything for granted, especially your health - go get it checked out :emoticon-0148-yes:

Here endeth today's sermon :)
