Didn’t manage to make the sale myself but a purchase was made and is safely ensconced in a stable near Chelmsford.all being well he will go pointing this season. I know you’re all dying to know who it is, well its 113 in the catalogue mahlers star . He was on the list and was successfully purchased for £6200. My mate being a northerner was never gonna spend the whole ten grand.
Anyway he’s happy with the result and as pointed out a lot off horses went cheap. Did I see an authorised giginstown horse go for a grand .
Ah yes, how did I miss him, I was looking for JJ.
Re MAHLERS STAR. I have to say I am pretty surprised that this one was on his radar. He has already been tried pointing and certainly seems to have been found out in the stamina department. Most of his racing under rules has been at around 2m 4f which about the point where is reserves run dry.
I am surprised too that he even ended up with Milton Bradley, chasers are hardly his thing.
On a positive note he doesnt have too many miles on the clock. If he can find him some opportunities at the shorter, sharper tracks he may well have some fun.
I have always thought that when going to the sales you can be in a catch 22 situation. Say he liked Supreme Steel, very late in the sale, but didnt want to go home empty handed and Mahlers Star is there at the right price. Difficult scenario huh. You could miss one you like and then the one you really wanted goes for silly money.
