If we were still the club we were 12 months ago then perhaps. I can't see many clubs with more resources/potential than us being managerless this summer, most clubs are pretty stable, even the ones coming down. I'm not sure who could tempt him a way given the support the Allams will be able to offer. Realistically what club would come in for him? Teams around us in the championship won't be changing. Wolves and Blackpool won't sack their managers if they come down, and in the short term, I can't see West Ham or Wigan tempting him away. Who else could come in? Villa? Blackburn? I think Pearson will see City as a project now. I'd be very surprised if he walked.
I have immense faith in NP as our manager, and long may he continue to be so! K-B, You say "he has not had long spells at his previous clubs", and, that he "isn't afraid to leave a club to go and further his career", but I think you are being a tad unfair (based on his Wicki- entry!); 1998 - 1999 Carlisle Utd. - Manager who keeps the from being relegated from the Football League on the final day of the season. 1999 - 2008 Various caretaker posts at club and national level. 2008 Southampton - Appointed on a rolling contract. Manager who keeps them from relegation to League 1 with only one game to go. 18/02/08 - 30/05/08 (replaced by Jan Poortvliet[quit 23/01/09] 2008 - 2010 Leicester City - 20/06/08 appointed manager in League 1. 18/04/09 confirmed League 1 Champions - promoted to Championship for the following season. 2009 - 2010 season - Finish 5th in league, defeated by Cardiff City in the play-off semi-final. Due to a well publicised take-over at the club Pearson decides to leave and...... 2010 - Present Hull City - 29/06/10 well the rest you know!! This, IMO, does not show a manager that is prepared to walk away to further his own success, in fact, to me, it shows the total opposite. If things at Leicester had not gone the way they did, I believe he would still be there now, and, looking at the success of Erikson, with his big money loans, compared to Pearson, with his shoe-string loans here, what may he have achieved at Leicester given another season? I look forward to another season (at least!!) with NP at the helm of our, now, steady ship, with greater excitement than I was looking at this season!
Managers do jump ship if they get a better offer but hopefully Pearson won't, the only downside for him would be the beginning of the season when he had to start the rebuilding after not even having a full pre-season, I remember a lot of fans knocking him, even comparing him to Phil Parkinson, which did make me chuckle as Pearsons managerial record is in a different league. Even now there are people saying he's too negative, but for me defence should come first and we don't have the attacking players in the squad to go gung-ho every match.
Agreed, Harper! Last season people were moaning we did not have a defence or an attack, now we have both, courtesy of NP's wheeler dealing, and still they are bemoaning the fact that we are too defensive-minded (in most of our matches now, before I get jumped on after their recent performance!!!!) now. I would rather have a clean sheet that be like a sieve and go for the "we-scored-one-more-than-you" attitude!
If we finish the season one point ahead of TWS, which we may well do, then I reckon we'll be grateful we held on for a draw yesterday. I found out last week that we didn't approach Pearson, we didn't even know he'd be interested in the job, he contacted us(at least his agent did), the job was about to go to Paul Hart.
He gets far to much credit. I know everybody likes to remain optimistic and say we're doing well, but the fact is, we're not, we've wasted a great opportunity to get back into the Premiership and we're in danger of disappearing into obscurity. He had no excuse for the piss poor start, and then after that he's subjected us to the most boring football we've played in recent memory. His one dimensional tactics work away, but have no chance of working at home, added to that he's killed the atmosphere completely at the KC. I'll give him credit where it's due, but the fact is he's achieved nothing of note and is average at best. This continued faith in him is embarrassing, if we're not in the playoffs come Christmas next season then it's time to get rid.
Because the atmosphere at the KC was electric under Dowey... I think you'll probably be very disappointed in December TWF. Long may the Pearson era continue
You really are a clueless muppett. I can't be bothered to argue with you as I get the feeling these half wit comments you post are done just to get a rise out of people.
I agree, think that a certain someone may end up with egg on their face next season! Still don't get why laughing boy thinks we'd have stormed this league and avoided the poor start, we were in dire straits last summer, something that had nothing to do with Pearson and we were heading for a season of struggle. Take the team that started at Swansa and QPR to the one that started at the New Den in August and you can see the good work Nigel has done. The transformation from then is beyond what we all could have hoped.
Agreed K-B, except the atmosphere had died before the start of last season, due to the none dimensional tactics being played by the incumbent prior to Dowie! He had no excuse for the piss poor start, and, continuation, of that season, due to the fact that he had, with connivance from the then Chairman, bought the players who were under-performing, considering the wages they were on! His tactics did not work home, or away, and, that he held onto his job past the Jan. transfer window is a speculation we will never get to the bottom of!! Credit to the then owner, who saw that the Chairman, and then afterwards, the Manager, were not able to perform their duties to the level we required and allowed them to leave with a certain amount of dignity, bring in a new chairman, who with no resources, tried to turn a "sinking ship to shore", to save what could be saved of the good old "S.S. Hull City". Now we have a ship, repaired, upgraded, with a more proficient Skipper, sailing better charted waters, and, the desired port = Football, in the Premier League, is just on the horizon, and we should be docking there, safely in May 2012.
Other than losing most of the squad and having no money for a new one, obviously(before you say it, Bullard doesn't constitute a team and didn't look remotely interested when he was playing earlier this season, which I'm aware is completely Adam Pearson's fault).
I'm glad you're coming around. At no point during this season have we had a squad that would get relegated on paper. There's just no way we can realistically call this season a success.
A team who has Folan and ***an up front or plays a left winger up front on his own IS NOT a team who is fighting promotion. Interesting how you say 'on paper', on paper sheffield united have a squad who shouldn't be relegated, but football is played on grass, which is where it matters. The team we had at the start of the season was not good enough to be anywhere near the top of the league, how you could have gone to the first game of the season and expected promotion is laughable.
Yeah and because of bad management Sheff Utd underachieved... The squad obviously needed improvement, but my point was they should have never been near the relegation zone.
