Good points St. You highlight eloquently the issues with historical cases & application of punishment. While I see the logic in applying the laws/punishments of the time of the crime, As you allude to We obviously aren't going to hang someone if we prove now they killed a man in 1938....there's also the issue of serving the public interest....as distasteful as it is, it would seem illogical to "over sentence a historical crime at a time when we are quite literally letting out modern criminals on exactly half their sentence.... There appear to be plenty of cases to test all this resulting from the fall out of the JS investigation. As for Whelan, well it's the old danger of greasing each others palms in an environment of rich & powerful people. Chances are you're shaking hands with a pervert or two & calling them your best buds. Unfortunately I don't think much has changed in the celeb circles, they are all use to getting what they want when they want it & know each others peccadillos so cover each other up. Not that I'm suggesting (lawyers) that Whelan had knowledge of H actions but he'll get marked as more of a fool than he already is.
