Does everybody now agree - well done, Margaret Byrne? She must have put up one hell of a good case to make a giant like Inter withdraw. Alvarez? - I don't know, but I hope we sign him up. Toivonen, M'Vila and Alvarez along with Catts, Rodwell or Larsson sounds a damn good engine room to me - and still leaves a bit of class on the bench, whoever it is! Sign the lad, he's done nowt wrong, has he?
Just shows how a bad translation can throw us off. Alvarez could be offered way out of limbo with return to Argentina, according to reports 03-09-2015 Reports in Argentina are suggesting that Ricky Alvarez, whom Sunderland and Internazionale are currently disputing their ownership of with FIFA, could return to his home land to join San Lorenzo, should the ongoing case result in his contract with Inter being rescinded. please log in to view this image The Argentine international could be set for a move back home with San Lorenzo. Photo source: taringa.net Sunderland's unwanted man Ricky Alvarez could be offered a way out of his nightmare situation by Argentine outfit San Lorenzo. Both the Black Cats and Italian side Internazionale are currentlyarguing their cases with FIFA regarding the ownership of Alvarez, with both claiming that the player belongs to the other following a loan deal last season. The debate has left Alvarez in limbo, out-casted from both sides, with few opportunities arising for him to get out the situation. However, according to reports emerging from Argentina, San Lorenzo could offer him a way out. Case with FIFA ongoing Before the Argentine side can offer Alvarez a return to his homeland, however, FIFA must resolve the ongoing case which has left both Sunderland and Inter stumped, forcing them to take it to football's governing body. The attacker left Argentina back in 2011 to sign for Inter, costing theSerie A side €12.8 million. Three years, 88 games and 14 goals later though, he was deemed surplus to requirements at the San Siro and loaned out to Sunderland, in a deal that would become permanent at the end of the season for €10.5 million, granted they avoided relegation to the Championship. Dick Advocaat steered the Black Cats to safety, and thus Inter believed that the deal would go through, but the English side refused to pay the agreed fee because Alvarez had spent the majority of the season injured, due to his parent club not allowing him to undergo required surgery on a knee problem until several months after Sunderland learned it would be needed. The 27-year-old and his agent are hopeful that the case will result in the player having his contract with Inter terminated, which will lead to him becoming a free agent and allow him to join a new club for free. San Lorenzo looking for Verón replacement San Lorenzo are believed to be interested in Alvarez, if he becomes available for them to recruit before Thursday 10 September, according to reports in Argentina. Los Santos are chasing their first league title since claiming the 2013Inicial, but have suffered a big setback in their bid to achieve this, with winger Gonzalo Verón joining the New York Red Bulls last month after three years with the Buenos Aires-based club. The 2014 Copa Libertadores champions are therefore believed to be looking at Alvarez, with them allowed to bring in a replacement, granted it is before next Thursday, despite the transfer window having slammed shut in Argentina already. It is understood that the player and his representatives have already held talks with San Lorenzo, and are now waiting on FIFA's decision. Manager Edgardo Bauza was asked about the links with Alvarez earlier this week, yet refused to give anything away, saying that the club "will have to see what happens." Bauza conceded that, "if he arrives," then the team "will need to adapt," but admitted that "he is a good player." Though the move would result in Inter receiving nothing for the player, it would be a transfer that would suit all parties and resolve a situation that is benefiting no one at the moment.
Strange statement from his agent. If he's free, then why us Europe not an option? Why can't he sign for us if we want him, unless of course he's already been told we don't? Agents have a habit of jumping the gun so I wouldn't be surprised if we hear it's still an ongoing issue. And what about that injury? Does he still need surgery?
Not sure whether he`s had the op. Might be recovering. "Alvarez had spent the majority of the season injured, due to his parent club not allowing him to undergo required surgery on a knee problem until several months after Sunderland learned it would be needed." If that`s the case they kept him injured & we should not be held responsible for that.
That was my reading of it. How long was left on his Inter contract, anyone know? If it was only a year when he was loaned to us, this could be true. Looks like Inter were talking ****e all along, no surprise there....
Ok, so he did only have a year left on his contract. Inter ****ed up by not allowing us to give him surgery, and thus nullified their agreement with us. As his contract with Inter has now ended, and we're not obliged to buy him, he is a free agent. I think he'll go back to Argie land. Talented lad, but i don't think he is fast and powerful enough for this league.....
Am I getting this right, Alverez comes to us on loan when he already has an outstanding knee injury which Inter knew all about, why then on his arrival at our club did this 'injury' not come to light when he had his medical prior to signing for us. None of this saga makes any sense too me and neither club comes out of this looking good. Hope the lad gets a club and gets back playing as he is an obvious talent.
Bottom line though seems to be that we got away with having to pay over £7m. Hopefully he finds a club and we all move on...
I still think there's a genuinely good footballer in there. He was played out on the right wing which obviously didn't suit him as he's not blessed with any pace. Given a free role in behind the main striker I think he'd thrive. Same role as what Toivonen will do this season for us. Shame for the lad and wish him well.
Argentine side San Lorenzo expect to learn tomorrow if they have made a breakthrough in their bid to end the uncertainty over Ricky Alvarez’s future. Sunderland have been involved in a summer-long dispute with Inter Milan over Alvarez after failing to activate the £8million permanent clause in the midfielder’s season-long loan deal at the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats argue that Inter had breached the loan contract by stalling over a decision on knee surgery for Alvarez, with FIFA called in to decide on the transfer. But while neither Sunderland or Inter appear to want Alvarez, there has been interest in the 27-year-old from his homeland, where River Plate and particularly San Lorenzo have been tracking his situation. San Lorenzo have been hoping to sign Alvarez on a Bosman deal and have reportedly agreed provisional terms over a contract after the Argentine international appealed to FIFA to be made a free agent. They expect to learn tomorrow whether FIFA will agree to that proposal, with the Argentine transfer window closing on Friday. San Lorenzo president Matias Lammens told the Argentine press: “We agreed that when his legal status is resolved we will sit down to define contract terms. “He is a player that is to our liking and we are very optimistic.” Inter are not going to agree to any settlement that leaves them out of pocket though after submitting their annual Financial Fair Play accounts based on the sale of Alvarez. Equally, Sunderland who are not thought to have been told of any resolution yet from FIFA over Alvarez, will hope to avoid any financial punishment over the loan deal. The uncertainty over the Alvarez situation was NOT a factor on Sunderland’s spending during the summer. But if Sunderland are forced to sign him, it would be a big outlay on a player who only fleetingly produced moments of quality during his injury-hit campaign at the Stadium of Light and remains in rehabilitation from his knee injury. Strange his hearing is before ours. Surely the decision he's looking for is pending the outcome of us and Inter.
£8m? Has the exchange rate changed that much? it was £7m last I read!! I truly feel sorry for the lad and, for his sake, hope that it's sorted out quickly! Seems a very strange situation though
If the reports are right and Inter refused to allow surgery then I guess that must put them in breach of contract (I can`t imagine that the loan agreement would not stipulate what was to happen if an injury occurred - either we send him back or they get him fixed...). If they are in breach I don`t see how we can be expected to honour the "buy if not relegated" provision. I`ve never seen a professional sports contract but the types of firms who seem to get involved are well regarded (and bloody expensive) so I can`t imagine that the scenario is not covered somewhere in the papers
If she has well done but was she not part of the initial contractual/legal team who f*cked it up? Agreed Relic we seem to have gotten away with one this time. Like BC says tho with a run of games and decent fitness levels I think he would have been a good squad player.
