Does anyone else have real confidence that we can finish 4-6th?

Watch out for Chimera, she'll probably have something to say about that.

To be fair, Chimera is fairly polite about us deluded Geordies... Some of the stuff going on over on the Sunderland board is pretty shocking at present, so it's good they feel able to post over here. Good work from the mods here in creating a pleasant atmosphere for us to be overzealous with our predictions in <ok>

I think Liverpool are worse than we all think, same with Spurs...

I would be chuffed with 5th

    happy with 6th

dissapointed with anything lower than 7th

Please don't take this the worng way but 8th would be fine for me but at a minimum after last year.

I really think people need a rain check.

No. Our squad is improved, players are coming back from injury... At this point of time, we are healthy and with our current squad, we are really 1 RB away from challenging for a Champions League spot. That said, without the RB signing, we're still good enough for other teams to worry enough to come to SJP and set their stall to defend. That should say enough about how other teams will see us. Why must there be a drop off after last season?

Sorry to say but you have Man City, Man United, Chelsea and Arsenal

    then

    Tottenham
    Us
    Everton
    Fulham
    Liverfool

so I'd say we are not in the rhelms of top 4

Arsenal and Chelsea are unknown forces this season. Their squads have changed so much, and both have lost their Talismanic strikers, it's impossible to tell how they'll do this year. Spurs have gone backwards, losing Modric and Ade. Liverpool and us are pretty much in the same position as last year in terms of squads.

Anything that gets us Europe I'd be happy with, anything that doesn't, I wont be.

I agree and that is the most realistic view point you have come up with for months.

Bubble, look at that, you've got positive rep now... Wonder who gave you that...

I wonder if it comes on the condition you stop talking "realism" when you're opinion is just as "realistic" as everyone else's here (accept mine you happy sod, we're going to win the league and I won't hear any different :p )...

If we were getting 8th, we'd likely miss out on Europe...I do think we can push for 4th, but I'm sure all of us would be glad as long as we get Europe again next season.. The one part that worries me slightly more than anything is the ACON

I never said where I think we'd finish, considering us having Europa games I think it would be very surprising if we finished fourth. All I did was mention how the other teams around us have done so far in the summer. It remains to be seen whether or not it's positive or negative for them.

Very confident of finishing Top8 since Pardew came out and said the league is our focus, quietly optimistic of finishing higher, possibly as high as 4th depending how Arsenal's new signings settle.

Top 8 is the aim and last year it was 17th for most so thats some progress and not disapointing in the very least.

I think 4th is a definite possibility and should be a definite target, however maybe this thread should have be resumed again on 1st September once we know if we've kept everyone/brought further players in.

I believe we're easily top six this time...Many factors going our way really... Liverfool and many of the "big teams" going through transitioning periods , the one threat I am wary is from Everton. Remember last season we got destroyed at Goodison for good(pun intended), Jelavic seems a tough striker to handle, and Fellaini's coming into his own, that's not to mention their solid players around the team(Baines, Jagielka etc)... Spurs going through a transition, I'm curious to see how Arsenal would do with their current team. Also, Chelsea, admittedly they're still good, but their core is getting really old, and they seem a bit thin up front as well, Torres needs to be good for them..

All in all, let's not forget our promise to Jose of the bin dippers , shall we.
