Does anyone else have real confidence that we can finish 4-6th?

I genuinely believe we wont have a better chance of taking that 4th spot than this season, with spuds and the bin dippers in transition with new managers etc and le arse selling their best players (van persie & song). Its all about how we adapt to Thursday>Sunday football, but yea we should be looking to take that 4th spot when its within our grasp

I'd say flatly that Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea have better squads and teams than us. Its tight with a couple of those but in a head-to-head home and away play-off we'd probably lose against all of those (and last season did, except Man Utd).

There's an argument to be made that we're the 6th strongest team in the league but Liverpool, Everton and about 4 other teams will have something to say about that. I expect us to finish top ten and also think that whilst everyone else is focusing on the backlash of our good season ("Newcastle will be found out", etc etc) I haven't heard many point out the positive attitude it gives. We were happy with a draw at home to Tottenham last season whilst this year we knew we wanted a win and backed ourselves to do it, we're not afraid of anyone this year.

I reckon we'll be 6-7th vying with Liverpool.

I reckon you'll get 4-6th truth be told it's not arsenal liverpool or spurs that would worry me if I was you guys. It's everton and possibly fulham that could surprise everyone.

I know Southampton and Portsmouth fans don't exactly love each other but I found both sets of fans great over the seasons.

 

I'm sure we will finish in the top 3 this year and a good run in Europe

Alright lads, cheers for the kind words. I think the general feeling is one of optimism I think we'll stay up just with our current squad. However if we add a couple of centre backs along with the two wingers we are rumoured to be after: matt phillips and Gaston Ramirez I think we'll finish about 12th. I'm very very excited about the prospect of Ramirez I must admit!

 

I saw some of the Liverpool board kicking up a fuss about not getting Ramirez and, quite arrogantly it has to be said, suggesting they must have pulled out for the Saints to have a chance. Not sure that necessarily has to be true given the direction of the club, the football being played and the potential talent being honed at Southampton.
