Do you believe....

In stating a belief that we will go up, those of us who have are facing up to the things which normally prevent us from being that definite.

Firstly that we will appear arrogant- well, we are top of the league, but I guess some might say it's a bit early to crow.
Second that we will appear foolish if we are proved wrong, hence I asked for a gut reaction, not a calculated one.

And thirdly, that feeling that somehow we are tempting fate, and the wheels will come off the bus after we have declared ourselves. Of course, this last one is just another manifestation of "the whole world revolves around me" superstition. I am very glad to have come off the fence, and pleased that I am not alone in my optimism.
 
I've been sat on the fence so long about whether we will go up or not, that the the f*cking thing is nearly falling down which has pissed the missus off! I also have splinter so far up my arse I've been booked in for surgery 9.30am Tuesday morning !
 
It's all very well stating whether you believe or not, and just to change the title of the song, I'm A Believer, at present. However, it makes not a jot of difference whether I say I do or not. Saints do not automatically get promotion if we can get 50,000 fans to make a declaration, nor do they fail either. They will do as they will, while we watch and hope, because there is a little bit of us invested in them, which desperately wants them to do well. Even if it is as little as just coming onto this forum to say so. So this question is nice for a bit of a ponder, but it's not essential. You're not letting the side dowm if you remain slightly unconvinced. You're just being a fan.
 
Absolutely agree with you, I'll, er, second that! But then nothing we say on a forum will have any bearing on what happens on the pitch. We are in a great position and I have noticed that many posters who used to finish every positive expression of sentiment with "but this Saints after all" have stopped. In addition the mood at St Mary's if our opponents score first is no longer "here we go again" but rather "so we need to score two". The mood has changed, and I believe that we will go up. I should add that unlike some beliefs, mine is based on a reasonable analysis of the facts, as I have no belief at all in the supernatural!
 
Indeed, while I was writing that previous post, I was well aware that nothing we say on the forum has little or any bearing on what SFC do as a club, and nothing to influence performances on the pitch. But we like to chatter about these things. Like yourself CF, I was giving another viewpoint to the condition of the person, sat in front of their keyboard, and pondering, perhaps overly much, as to where their confidence in Saints lay. I'm not sure it makes it any easier for supporters, but it's probably just as well to remind oneself of the perspective.
 
I have been nervous for a few weeks, and the pack have caught us up, but we seem to be able to stay top even when we slip up, so I am remaining positive. However, my chickens will remain an indeterminant number!!
 
The bookies still have faith in our promotion bid despite recent injury prone form. There won't be a better opportunity than this to get back to the top flight and I have complete faith in our management to do what is necessary to achieve that aim. I think most supporters would have been positive about promotion last November but by Christmas not so sure. Now there is much more optimism and a belief that, compared to the opposition, we really are good enough. I would predict that we will drop down to 3rd or 4th position in the league, while we sort ourselves out and get through these next few tough fixtures, before rallying towards the end of the season to finish 2nd. Faith in promotion, yes, but it could get mighty nervy towards the end.
 
We won't go into percenatages will we?...........Still undecided, been a Saints fan too long.........ask me on the last day of the season......<laugh>
 
As I stated a little while ago, I think our blip is done and dusted now. Honest gut feeling is that we'll be Champions.
 
I think we will get promoted. West Ham aren't as good as teams that have won the league previously and I think we're capable of winning the league with a couple of good signings. Saturday's win has given me more confidence as I really wasn't sure of winning it with injuries and no Lambert.
 
I'm still on the fence. If we loose out next game, people will suddenly be in panic mode again. Leicester will be much tougher then Forest. Sorry going off topic...

I don't think we will get auto's at this moment in time, however I will continue to sit on the fence and say, if we can go through another winning patch and win our next 3 games, and if we make a couple of more quality additions to our team then i think we have every chance. Oh and if our key players stay injury free and it could also depend on who the likes of West Ham, Cardiff and Boro bring in too...

But at this moment in time, my gut feeling is no...:undecided:
 
Gut feeling, we're going up.


How long do we have to be top before some of you believe we're going to stay there.
 
I don't think I can recall a time since Keegan when the vibes and mood coming from the whole club, but in particular Nigel and the players, has been so positive and upbeat. Runs from the first team right down to the youngsters. The whole club is united and everyone plays with a smile on their face.The tank is nearly full and we will, with the odd stop to change a wheel, drive straight into the premiership!

Mostly the contributions have been along the lines of "it's possible if we avoid injuries and make a couple of good signings" kind of thng. I am really looking for the gut reaction. Do you believe, without justification or caveat that we will go up this season?

Better nail my colours to the mast. I haven't seen any team play better than us, or more consistantly than us. I believe that we are going up this season. :)

I'm still cautious.. if we come out of January still in the top 2 then i will beleive it.. a very tough month for us!!
 
I have been watching allm season and apart from the recent blip can't believe just how good the football we have been playing is. I am still not sure we will go up in the top two though. Our nrxt run of 5 or 6 games will be crucial.

If I had to make a call now, I'd say we'll finish 5th.
