I agree Rebelspur. I am beginning to wonder what's going on here. There has already been an implication in Modrics' "statement" that Levy was aware of his desire to leave when he agreed to sign the new contract. If he really has his heart set on joining the Chavs (god knows why. He claims it's not money???) then there's little point in doing what Arsenal have done with Fibreglass, and hold him hostage. It is now time for some clarity. I want to hear from Modric himself. Simple question, True or False?
"âIf somebody comes to the club and the offer is good for me and acceptable to them, then I want to leave,â he said. âIt has to be good for my ambition. It has to be a club who are winning titles and playing in the Champions League.'" There are two parts of the article that give me hope, and this is one of them. Here we can see that he wants to play CL football and win silverware. The important part is that he (allegedly, remember) states that the offer also has to be good for the club - and we know that Spurs do not want to sell Modric. That brings us on to the second quote that gives me hope. "'I wonât ask for a transfer, no. That would be disrespectful.'" This, combined with the previous quote, implies that IF we could keep him over the summer then because he is fundamentally happy at Spurs - he wants to move to further his career, not because he is unhappy - he would stay for a certain period of time (maybe half a season or the entire term). Now IF we could secure CL football next year and/or win silverware I think we could persuade him to stay. It is a big IF, to be sure, but it gives me hope. And that is why I have hope (probably naively) that he will still be a Tottenham player come September 1st.
I was being sarcastic. Of course it's about the money. He's linking himself with a club that's got a ton of money and no manager, for ****'s sake.
Actually Carrick rejected contract offers from Spurs after Man Utd had tapped him up for a year through the media
i see the cycle developing that i have seen for many a year :- we the fans live in denial and give reason after reason as to why everything we are hearing/seeing in the paper is a load of rubbish we try to comfort ourselves by saying that the player says he is happy at the club the chairman says he wont sell his best players yet for me if a player wants to stay he would actually make a statement on the spurs website or get filmed declaring that he will not be moving on sky sports etc or come on the radio with his little broken english and declare that he is staying...he hasnt and wont despite the ever mounting restless specualation...therfore i will belive he is well on his way to leaving spurs...i am far too long in the tooth to live in a bubble that is being held up by the words of a footballer lets take for example ronaldo who was being offered 400 grand a week at city last week but declared on tv that he wont be going nowhere....so as to end any little itchy bum moments man city might be having because they want ronaldo....
To all you deluded Spuds read the quotes again, the media indeed can twist words and can leave certain sentences out BUT they cannot just make up a quote, "I want to go to Chelsea" is pretty clearcut to me. The statement made by your chairman today will no doubt look slightly foolish by august 31st, No doubt Modric will have to submit a transfer request so Levy can save face, but as soon as the bid goes anywhere near 32-35 mill, your chairman will cave in like a pack of cards.
I'm sure these WUMs can put their incredible abillity to see into the future to better use than posting on our board.
That depends entirely upon how they are built up and the way pressure is applied. Basic engineering principles really, but then you are not too au fait with modern building technology in N17 are you
Packs of cards can't cave in, as they're not in any position to. A house of cards is more typically said to collapse and a cave-in would be a poor description.
For example, Arsenal lead Newcastle 4-0 with less than 25 minutes to go, but they caved-in and drew 4-4.
Now you are really clutching at straws if you think that's what they have done with his quote. I mean, come on? I think Lucy hit the nail on the head with this quote:
When did he make these comments, during his wedding speech?...and he's decided to speak to a reporter over the phone rather than his agent!
Calm down petal. I'm not wumming, I'm simply pointing out that it is stretching credulity to breaking point if you really believe that any Journalist worth his salt would manipulate a quote in such a perverse way, it would be professional suicide. And Modric's quote about wanting to play for a bigger club is his assessment of Spurs' current stature.
If it was his agent who said those things then he would have been quoted. But it wasn't, they were Modric's quotes. There is a clear code of ethics in journalism that dictates if you carry direct quotes from somebody, then you need to be able to demonstrate that they actually said that, otherwise your reputation and career will be in tatters.
The important part of Modric's alleged agreement with Mr Levy is " an offer that is good for Tottenham and for me ". At what stage (or should that be price) does it become good for Spurs? In view of Harry's stated aims of needing three top players to build a team with Modric as the focus and there appears to be no 'new Modric' available anywhere, I assume that we will need to buy even more players to create a team comparable to the one we would have had with Modric. That would require a lot of money I can foresee the Chavs, Manure, Liverpool and Citeh spending in excess of £100 million, and so ,in order to compete, we must also spend that much. I doubt if Harry's kitty is more than 30 million and so we will need to raise at least 80 million from transfers. To get to that figure we will need to get at least £70,000,000 for Modric. That is what he is worth to Spurs. Is Abramovich prepared to go that high? I don't think so, but that is the only deal that is also good for Tottenham
Excuse me PIsskie, but did I hear you use the words "ethics" and "jounalism" in the same sentence??? Shurely shome mishtake
