"If Modric really wants out he will tell Redknapp/Levy and they will say so " Colonel, Redknapp came close to admitting that Luka's head has been turned in an interview not long ago... To me this would suggest that talks have been ongoing between the Club and Luka in regards to his future. Redknapp has reiterated many times even before the season finished that the club must hold on to Luka. This is a direct plea to Levy who, if he chooses to do so, can play hardball and insist on Luka staying. However if there is some kind of binding agreement written into that contract between Luka and the club, it may just be a matter of reaching a certain figure before the club concedes the loss of Modric. I fear the only hope we have is that the Russian loses interest once the offers breach the 30m mark - highly unlikely Im tired, drunk and slightly upset by this news. Hope things will be clearer tomorrow, night all
Its all speculation until he signs with another club but the media in this country dont do any team any kind of favours its the nature of the beast, they are paid to find stories that sell and that rests with controversy and shock value. i thought modric had a minor chance of moving somewhere else, but that interview if its all genuine seems to give a little indication. If he does go who would you sign to replace him?
Redknapp also said 100M wouldn't be enough for Modric If you have confidence in the media telling the truth so be it however I do not
The more reputable Guardian have reported the story too with the same quotes. I'd find it hard to believe now that this is all made up. As much as I am very unhappy about this, we only have ourselves to blame for not doing enough in both transfer windows when we had the chance. Modric talks about Chelsea with their ambition, and I am angrily thinking back to when we did sod all in January to strengthen our team in the places we so needed. Should we sell him, which I expect us to, I really hope not only that we sell for the best amount possible, but that we actually show some 'ambition' in replacing him, and by that I don't mean simply bring in Scott Parker.
Been a while since I thought there was something worth commenting on but this is it. I feel absolutely sick hearing this news. Really thought Luka meant something when he said he felt he "owed us" something for bringing him to the premiership. Alas, turns out he's just the same as the rest of these c*****. Gutted. "Chelsea are a big club with an ambitious owner. They have great players and they have ambitions to fight for the title and win the Champions League." Luka, really? Chelsea? big club? the same big club that struggle to sell their season tickets? the same big club that have to advertise their match tickets on X F f*cking M? F Off, you ****! So how much did it cost for your soul, Luka? Time will tell I guess.
Maybe you're being a bit harsh there dean. He has said he won't force a transfer and he has been at your club for a while. Almost all player try to move upwards in their careers if they have the talent for it.
did you beleive the rumours that it was ryan giggs,? no smoke without fire. papers way too savvy to get caught with libel actions, in the main. i believe them, alas.
The thing that bothers me most is that once again Spurs fans will be gutted. I'm 28 and have seen Sheringham, Campbell, Carrick and Berbatov all leave to join bigger clubs in my time so I fully expected Modric to do the same not matter what he said, but some people (probably younger fans) geniune believed Modric was a different player who loved Spurs and it will hurt them seeing this. And by coming out and admitting publicly he wants to leave that won't do the club any good in getting the top top price as the bidding club (Chelsea) know the player wants to join and Spurs can't keep hold of a player who doesn't want to be there. Luka Modric - just another mercenary.
Just goes to show that old saying "if you want loyalty, buy a dog" is true. I can't believe he hasn't been tapped up by the Chavs. It's just the sort of crude thing they would do. I disagree about the price, however. If he IS going to leave, I reckon Levy will screw the Chavs for every last penny. I have to say, I'm hugely disappointed in Modric. I thought he would give it one more season for us to show the ambition to get back in the Top4. If we failed, then, fair enough. I expected him to leave. He has said that he won't put in a transfer request, so I reckon the price is going much higher.
I'm not so sure, if these comments are true, that straight away reduces any possible fee as now you have the potential of an unhappy player whose head has been turned. Before it would have taken silly money, now i think it'll take what he is actually worth and Spurs will probably have to bite the bullet. 30 million i think.
I disagree. Modric is not the sort to behave that way. There seems to be an implication that Levy knew about all this when Modric agreed to sign the new contract. If that has any truth in it, then it could only be for one reason. To ensure Spurs got the highest price possible. IF he goes - and, to me, it's still if - then it will be for a far higher price than those being currently quoted.
Maybe true and if so, I don't think he'll end up at us. I really can't see us bidding above 30 million for him. He's a very good player but i think the 40-50 million figures are not realistic. He's not proven world class yet and midfielders dont go for as much as forwards generally.
The "market" has got nothing to do with it. This is all about what Spurs are willing to accept. Modric, if these "quotes" have any truth to them, will not ask for a transfer. Therefore, if Chelsea, or anybody else wants him, they will have to pay up big time.
Agreed. However, as Man Utd have reportedly already pulled out of the chase, it seems to suggest that the asking price is already more than Fergie is willing to pay.
Levy will screw the chavs for every last penny he can get but what kind of signal will this send out to the likes of Bale,VDV etc Hopefully he has learned from what happened when Keane and Berbatov were sold.
If modric said in the papers "I want to stay at spurs" you believe it. If modric said in the papers "I want to leave spurs" you dismiss it. Maybe some of you should stop reading papers and online news all together and just pay attention on match days as only then do you know who is at the club.
Maybe I was a bit harsh with the c word but to be fair I was drunk and feeling abusive. I still stand by my point though. Saying things like "no I won't force through a transfer". Really? Well that sounds like what your trying to do! Also things like "I want to stay in London. I am very happy here and so are my family. I like the city." What, so that means you think you should be sold to a london club? It almost as though he thinks Spurs was his stepping stone to London. He may well have not asked for a transfer yet but he's gone from "I'm very happy at Tottenham and I owe them a great deal for taking a chance on me" to "I'm happy but I'd like to play champions league football" to "I want to play for the massive club that is Chelsea but won't force through a move." Hmmm, I wonder what's coming next and if that does happen the man is a c@$%!
When Sheringham and Campbell left we were a mid table club with no prospects. Carrick leaving was essentially our fault for not offering him a new contract early enough and making him feel wanted. Berbatov was approaching the peak of his career and wanted to win trophies, which to be fair at the time was not a realistc prospect with us. He was the shining light in our team surrounded by comparitively average players. Modric is playing for a team that is competing, that has just got to the Champions league quarter final and was only eliminated by the second best team in the world. He's playing alongside worldclass players like Bale and VDV. He's also only 25 so has plenty of time left in his career to move on and win trophies if that doesn't look likely at spurs after another season or two. I really though his circumstances were sufficiently different so that he wouldn't want to move on. So naive!
