just seems odd that given we are in with a shout Europe.. we chose to weaken our squad and not strengthen at this crucial time.
It would appear to me that the club is setting itself up for the possibility it won't be in Europe.
This way means whatever happens they can spend in the summer and if they do land Europe it's a bonus.
They're playing the long game and aren't gambling like the Neanderthals would.
I agree with chippy it is odd. We have 1 recognised RW in Murphy. Barnes is out for another 4 weeks.
We only have Isak as a striker with Wilson being made of glass and Osula being raw and not ready for the PL.

How are we weakening the squad?
If popular opinion is to be believed Miggy was a waste of space and Kelly’s purchase should never have occurred.
So, we sold 2 unnecessary squad players bringing in money and creating space in a bloated squad and lost salaries and helped us regarding our position (whatever it is) with psr.
For me Miggy was a 100% trier with an excellent attitude but just not the level of quality that we are aiming for. Kelly is bit of a curious one but ultimately will prove not to be a loss this season provided we don’t get any injuries in that part of the team. And if so clever psr business which is clearly something we need to do going forward.
Not many on here are crying about the sales which is surprising. Not in regard to the sales per se but more simply that an opportunity to cry about something has been missed. But no, not weakening the squad but the type of astute dealing which we will need going forward.
I'm for this tbh - Kelly was a gamble that obviously hasn't worked, and if we get £15m for him, snap their hands off. We have Schar, Botman, Burn, Krafth and Laecelles so there's cover, get rid of Kelly and make a proper CB signing in the summer.
Almiron is 31 in a few days and way past his best, to get £11m was a total steal. Trippier is 34 and doesn't get in the team anymore and is a shadow of the player he was 2 years ago, makes odd appearances as a sub and is never any good.

If we do sell Trips aswell then it’s a good window financially.
But without any incomings what message does it send?

We are getting rid of the right players at least. But it is leaving us ridiculously short.
Everyone else will get wrapped up in psr and then Newcastle will strike.
