I wouldn't be surprised if we're already done. One out and one in. Not we want to hear but hardly surprising. As a minimum from a fans point of view we need a centre back and striker. We could also do with a left footed left back and wide left player too ideally.

From Mikes point of view, he may agree on the striker but he'll be saying "Why should I fork out for yet another first choice centre back? You asked me to pay S Taylor the purple player wages and I did. I'm not paying a 3rd centre half the purple wages". As for the left back he would say "Well we must sell Santon", the left midfielder "no you got Obertan and Jonas is on first team wages".

Not saying it makes for all great reading to a fan but I suspect its how he sees it. We may only get a striker and maybe a replacement for Colo if he goes at best.

Would be much better if clubs were allowed a budget of say £50m per year giving each player in a squad of 40 players an average wage of around 24k per week. 24000 x 40 players x 52 weeks = £49,920,000. Perhaps under 19's could not be included to encourage youth development.

Of course you don't need to have 40 players and obviously it would be up to the club if they wanted to allocate 75k per week on one player.

Guthrie was known to be on 8k per week and there's not many clubs go over £50 million anyway but it would restrict Citeh, United etc. paying silly wages for all the best players.

This would level the playing field for all clubs in the top leagues and stop club wage bills spiralling out of control and/or administrations and "doing a Leeds" by giving riduculous wages to the likes of Seth Johnson.

You could get Citeh unable to sign players because they are at their cap and then NUFC or even Wigan being able to offer a financial package to that said player. Therefore making it a level playing field!!

I think this is very much along the lines of county cricket.
