The priority area for January has to be midfield. We do have enough bodies to fill the LB slot for the rest of the season.
Not in January but possibly in the summer unless Cissokho shows some decent form and we make his loan permanent.
Seems unlikely at the minute - personally I think he is a good player and some of his 'poor' performances have been exaggerated somewhat - with the exception of the Arsenal game. Enrique is out until Feb/March time plus it will take another few weeks for him to get back up to speed. Even with a fully fit Enrique, Rodgers was looking at replacements in the full back positions. However the injuries have now made it a priority. Ryan Bertrand is now a target for £8m.
look enrique is out for 10 weeks? thats 10 weeks from operation. january is 5 weeks away? so feb enrique is back.... now have we looked at cissohko and found him wanting? YES IMO So... if the right man is out there and available and the is money to do it then do it..... I would be against buying fillers or more loans. In reality our issue is we loaned out wisdom as we've no faith in him... kelly is not fit so there is no option for RB to let johnson move over. the main issue in people's minds i find is money.... january is difficult, it could be the case we've money but no-one to buy in midfield I do not know. If we buy an LB and no midfielders nobody will be happy but the case could simply be that there is nobody immediately available. I would also buy a midfielder first, no question.
lets just get Baines ffs we would have some nice options for free kicks if we did, might actually get decent corner kicks as well. reckon we could get him, and price £20 mill ish? i keep hearing rumblings of Enrqiue being replaced at some point, so why not just go straight for the jugglar and sort the main LB position out now, also help in attack.
No thanks to Baines - very good player but £20m for a 29 year old just doesn't seem like value for money IMO. We need 2/3 players in January. What's stopping us from getting all three is money. We need a DM and a left back as priority - had the injury to Enrique not occurred, Rodgers could have waited until summer to rectify this.
He was not anything special when he played us but he has developed into a good player, im not sure if hes better than Enrique but he would be a lot better than any other left back we have at the moment.
Insua was a very good player. I remember during the 08/09 season where he rotated with Aurelio and reliable. However, he was thrown in at the deep end the following season, and ended up playing a lot of games. Not only this, the whole team struggled that season but he was one of the scapegoats.
Liverpool in a hurry to sign Barcelona's Martin Montoya LIVERPOOL aim to sign Barcelona defender Martin Montoya as the solution to their problems at full-back. The Reds have their eye on Barcelona s Montoya The Reds have their eye on Barcelona's Montoya [GETTY] Managing director Ian Ayre flew to Spain yesterday to discuss the transfer. Liverpool want to recruit Montoya, 22, in January rather than wait until next summer when he is out of contract. Their success will depend on whether Barcelona are prepared to accept a fee for him now rather than risk his value being set by an independent transfer tribunal at the end of the season. Managing director Ian Ayre flew to Spain yesterday to discuss the transfer Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admitted he would have to strengthen, with left-back Jose Enrique out until February after knee surgery and understudy Aly Cissokho having struggled to make an impact since his loan arrival from Valencia. Montoya’s ability to play at right-back also raises doubts over Martin Kelly, who has played just 51 minutes this season as he seeks to recover his fitness after missing most of the last campaign with a cruciate knee injury. And Glen Johnson has just 18 months left on his current deal. http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...in-a-hurry-to-sign-Barcelona-s-Martin-Montoya
Really happy that Montoya is the full back we want - plus he can play on both flanks (although better on the right). Some may not like this but I'm happy that this now puts pressure on Johnson, either accept a pay cut or he's free to leave. If we did get Montoya in Jan, I can see him on the right with Johnson on the left.
"If we did get Montoya in Jan, I can see him on the right with Johnson on the left." agree Jimmy, for some reason i feel Johnson is more threatening going forward on the left as well, on the right he is predictable, but on the left he isn't.
