Some players do the right thing instinctively or have learned the process through repetition. Everyone used to talk about Shearer's arrival at the back post. Right place right time. What is often forgotten is how many times he'd make a run to the back post without the ball coming. It wasnt 1 run 1 goal. He'd make the run 15-20 times a game. 2 or 3 times the ball might get to him. One of those would hit the back of the net. What needs coaching is getting players into the mind set. Chopping and changing player's positions and team formation doesn't help that.
All good points. Perhaps with so many new players they haven't yet gelled into knowing what each will do in any given situation. However I think it goes deeper than that and I question the inherent ability of some of our forward players to read the game. Saturday we were playing the ball well through midfield but frequently we became static as the ball reached the box. This improved as our full backs got forward more but then the crossing failed for a variety of reasons. From what I have seen of Robinson he has a much more natural ability than the likes of Harris, Etete and poor old Watters. He loses his markers, makes space and gives himself time. Something the others can't do. His absence for 3 games and 83 minutes is a big loss. Once he, Colwill and Isaak Davies return then we should have a much more potent threat.
Just to add a bit of science to the blindingly obvious, along with PNE we are the lowest scorers in the league. Defensively, we are on a par with or better than three of the top six for goals conceded. I'm sure we'll score more as players return, but let's keep everyone sharp and get that coach in.
I would say that is more statistics than science........sort of mathematics. Essentail of course but not the real thing!!!!
Isnt mathematics a science? Its not a language. Not an art. Whats left? Suppose it could be engineering. Used to work in the defence industry. Rocket science. Mainly mathematics. Just saying.
Beats the crap out of me. One of my afore mentioned friends in Ceredigion completed an MA in Mathematics and. BA in Physics!
