this is the dilemma Mike! Do we sacrifice our one greatest asset to sign some badly needed players in other positions or do we just carry on regardless! Btw We all know that it will be the latter but it's always good to play devils advocate! Personally I see nothing wrong in Mings so yes I would use him at LB and see what happens
It's a tough one really and as ever I'm getting blisters on the fence. I quite like the way the club is being run, we're investing more money in the academy and getting our finances in order, fortunately we have a manager who can get alot out of limited players but by the same token we have a manager who seems to prefer limited players and grafters over talented ones. Defensively I think we have 3 very decent CBs for this division, we have the best LB and a potentially very good RB. GKs are both average and the midfield is completely average, as I've said before I like Skuse but for me he is the Mick McCarthy in a player, very talented but plays it too safe and doesn't show enough intent in his play. Strikers, we've got potentially IMO 3 very good players there in Taylor, McGoldrick and Blake but we need to play a system to get the best out of them as I believe they are best in a pass and move team and although I would say we aren't a long ball team neither are we overly creative. Our other players are pretty average. That alot down to a lack of funds but also partly IMo down to the type of player Mick likes. It's an interesting debate with regard to Cresswell because he's really the only player with any value in our team yet take him out of it and we lose the majority of our creativity in the team, so it's a double edged sword. We clearly need investment but I don't mind us not investing in January, although a RW and a creative CM wouldn't go amiss, wait till the summer, lets gradually build a team not rush to put one together. If need be recall our loan players back and give them a few games, as I don't think we're at risk of getting relegated (which was apparently why we didn't play them last season). I'd like to add I think it's a shame Tabb was dropped at the start of the season as he looked our best player in the first few games, coud've seen him being the best option for CM alongside Skuse but he hasn't played in a while and now looks a little lost.
To answer the OP. we lack strength in the first team, not just in depth. But we have made massive strides forward and need another half dozen players. Mick is well aware of this but Rome wasn't built in a day.
