No luck, just apparent good fortune. Regardless of how it happened, or who caused it, from a pure observational point of view, it appears that we've been very fortunate. If an outsider didn't know about the work which goes on behind the scenes, and our scouting system, they would look at the players we have and the money we've spent and think we've been granted a miracle.

So how about Rochdale fans or those who follow any other massively underachieving club. They still follow their club through thick and thin. Surely the reward their loyalty deserves cancels out ours and visa versa. In which case it comes down to judgement, ability and finances to determine success. In that department only finance can measurably determine which clubs really should be finishing higher than others.

By that reasoning I would say that we are now back into a position that our financial clout suggests we should be in. But I don't for a second think we have an automatic right to expect to be in this position. Ultimately a club is in exactly the league position it deserves to be in.

The club and the team deserves to be where it finishes this season, I'm not saying the fans deserve any specific finishing spot, just success.

But all fans equally deserve success surely. What makes us so special?

Well done for the childish insult. <ok>

No because no fan base deserves success on the basis of how loyal they are. Teams play the football they therefore they determine the amount of success gained. Just doesn't work like that.

Still ahead of Liverpool, think Newcastle and Arsenal are both clubs who can't wait for the football recession and financial fair play rules to take down some of the top clubs.

The relegation clean slate and instant promotion has been a bit like a catapult.

You get a momentum of success (Champions remember) that we've had the benefit of, but you have to capitalise on that with good management and the right culture of not taking things for granted.
Maintaining the right work ethic and definitely downplaying expectations has been crucial and the lowest points have helped here.

But when we went down I told everyone that we'd be back and we'd be back stronger. You are right to some degree about 'belonging', not necessarily right at the top but close, because people underestimate what a massive club we are.
The supporters are the real reason for that (at all clubs) and the whole region lives and breathes its football – plus (believe it or not) there's a whole lotta love for NUFC up and down the country and abroad.

That collective enthusiasm, passion and spirit for driving the club on counts for so much...

Because we've got loadsa fans, and loadsa fans in the top division equals loadsa happiness, which is good on the utilitarian calculus if you're into that kinky philosophical ****.

Leeds replacing Wigan in the top division = more happiness. The Football League should reintroduce election into the top division and make Leeds United's divine right to be there come true. <diva> It works for rugby league and no-one complained about it back in the 19th century. <ok>

As it happens I am into the kinky philosphical ****. And in this case, more pleasure is attained with Leeds in lower leagues than in the PL. And the greater good is achieved due to the way Leeds used to play. (I hate utilitarianism, Kant had the right idea).

We get rid of average, overrated players and replace them with better, younger players and that's lucky? <laugh> It's not lucky, it's good business!

This. Although, would be amazing if Enrique was still here. Imagine Santon - Taylor - Coloccini - Enrique
