I’d suggest that you could relegate 6-8 teams this season and see little difference or perhaps an improvement in the PL football next year. Big buckets of money don’t achieve much in the wrong hands. Now about that board of ours...
Didn’t Nigel Pearson keep us up, many moons ago, when relegation threatened? He also, after having had a torrid time at Leicester, turned their form around and got them winning, a mentality they carried into the following, title winning season. Or have I got the timings wrong? I’d settle for him turning our form around. Winning the title next season would be a bonus.
Some people out there will agree with that version. Not everyone. He came in around February time, after we decided against leaving Dodd and Gorman in caretaker charge until the end of the season afterall (Burley having left for Scotland in December/January time). And duly left after our last day escape at home to Sheff Utd.
Just read this. Sound like you know something here... is there more to tell @st_brendy ?? Be interesting to hear.
Nothing more to tell. Just that for some, we avoided relegation because of Pearson. For others, we avoided relegation in spite of Pearson.
Ah ok, I understand. I thought there was some juicy gossip I had missed out on. Rumours and gossip wasn’t quite as readily available then, as it is now.
Saw this on Saintsweb but made me smile. Krueger and Reed creating a new formula for the BlackBox please log in to view this image
As a child of the 80's, Krueger will always be a blade glove wearing burnt thing of nightmares to me. Whereas Les has become a bit of a muppet.
I am starting to lose faith in our board. I was hoping we would have an impact signing in, for the must win at Watford, but I seem to think, our club would rather not pay what the transfer market dictates now, and penny pinch! I say, to Les and Co, "Wake the **** up! we are seriously in danger of going down" Spend the money required to keep us up!
The decision to keep MP for me is the main issue. Spending huge transfer fees on players and then trusting him to bed them down into our demoralised squad and then blend them into our constantly rotating first team seems a little daft. Probably better to keep the £75m back and see if we will need it to plug the gaps in our finances if/when we get relegated
I'd suggest that a year to 18 months ago was the time to start to lose faith. In any event, I'm sadly not hopeful of your request being placated.
I don't think that they are taking the possibility of relegation seriously. That's a consequence that visits badly-run clubs, and everyone knows that we're an innovative club that is the envy of the footballing world, so it stands to reason that this is a mere blip. To admit that we're serious candidates for relegation would be to first admit that we have rather badly mismanaged over the past couple seasons.
And because of this, even if we do stay up, I don't think anyone should get ahead of themselves in thinking that we'll spend this summer finally putting things right. I will (almost) always take staying up over going down, if for no other reason than you never know when/if you'll return. But nonetheless, right now I can't say that I'd be particularly looking forward to next season if we are still in the PL.
We have put the feelers out and spoken to Fulham manager Jokanovic’s agent to find out if he would be interested... I’m not normally ITK, but that’s come from a pretty reliable source. So it seems MP isnt as safe as they are making out in the press..
