Been in plenty of those games Smug. Travelled the world in the back of knackered old crew buses and mini buses; coaches and cars and latterly (when I got all posh like and a few more bob in the pocket) via train to the 4 corners of the nation. Taken over towns like a travelling army, outsung and out drunk plenty of willing locals and generally had some wonderful wild days and weekends away following Sunderland. Wouldn't have swapped a moment of it either and I'm hoping in early March to spend another wonderful weekend away in the capital again, regardless of the result. My lasting memories of the 85, 90, 92 and 98 Wembley weekends are like gold dust. Taking over Trafalgar Square with 1000's of lads and lasses dressed in red & white teaching the London folk how to live life to the full. Ah, great days indeed. I sadly cant make Wednesday mate but I will be watching from home so sing a song for me, drink a beer or two as well and if we get through, we will meet up together in London on March 1st for a beer.
DEADLY duo Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie could return for crisis club Manchester United as they look to overcome a first-leg defecit against Sunderland in the Capital One Cup semi-final on Wednesday. But the Black Cats won’t face Red Devils skipper Nemanja Vidic after he was sent off in the 3-1 defeat at Chelsea yesterday. It was all part of a bad day for boss David Moyes, who is under pressure after seeing his side stay in seventh spot in the Premier League table, 14 points behind leaders Arsenal. It makes Wednesday’s game at Old Trafford even more important for Moyes, whose side trail 2-1 after the game at the Stadium of Light a fortnight ago. The only crumb of comfort for Moyes was that Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney are set to return to training. “I hope so,” Moyes said when asked if they would return to the fold today. Vidic will miss the game, however, after he was sent off for a bad challenge on Eden Hazard. Rafael was guilty of an even worse two-footed challenge on Cahill moments later, although the full-back connected with the ball rather than the player. Luckily for the Brazilian, and Moyes, referee Phil Dowd gave the right-back only a yellow card. “I thought Vidic wasn’t a sending-off, but I’ve seen Rafa’s and I think that could have been a sending off,” Moyes said. Moyes, meanwhile, rejected Jose Mourinho’s claim that Manchester United’s title hopes are effectively over despite the damaging defeat at Stamford Bridge, which saw Samuel Eto’o bag a hat-trick. “We won’t throw the towel in until we can’t get there,” the United manager said. “The job is to try and finish first. I will keep trying to do that. “Before today we’d lost one in six in the league, and I didn’t think there was a big difference between the teams today, not at all. “The difference was our defending to set-pieces. Nothing else.”
If Rooney and RVP play then we should kick the pair of them as hard as possible in the early stages as neither are fit and wont take too kindly to the rough stuff. I dont give a ****e about doing this the honourable way or the right way at all. I just want to get to Wembley.
I don't think either will play. It's my belief that they both want out and won't want to give Moyes a cup final to cling onto, neither want to be injured against Sunderland ............ I don't even believe Rooney is really injured tbh.
Hahaha well I'm glad Poyet's your manager and not you mate. There's no way on earth that I'd prefer to lose this game than win it and I won't be one of them saying 'I couldn't give a **** about the league cup' if we get knocked out of it by you lot. Fact is, with RVP and Rooney fit for the final I'd be more optimistic (not confident though, let's not get carried away). It would be more embarrassing for City if they lost than for us, considering how our seasons are currently contrasting, nobody would be expecting us to win that game.
