Novak Djokovic made it to his first Wimbledon final and became the new world number one with a semi-final victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Centre Court.

The Serbian won fairly comfortably, although his French opponent's win in the third set did spark the brief possibility of a comeback to match his epic five-set victory over Roger Federer in the quarter final.

But Djokovic calmly saw out the fourth set to win 7-6 (7/4) 6-2 6-7 (9/11) 6-3.

He is now guaranteed to be the new world number one on Monday regardless of the outcome of Sunday's final.

Tsonga got off to the better start and broke his opponent in the first game. But Djokovic gradually found his way back into the set with a workmanlike performance, and broke back as Tsonga faltered in the 10th game.

    He took the tie-break 7-4.

Djokovic dominated the second, breaking twice on his way to easing to a two-set advantage.

Tsongs upped his game in the following set and, with the crowd fully behind him, took the tie-break 11-9. He had saved two Djokovic match points earlier in the breaker.

But Djokovic reasserted his authority immediately by breaking Tsonga's first service game in the fourth set.

Afterwards, he said: "It's difficult to put into words, it's one of the best feelings I've ever had on the tennis court. My dreams are coming true, a first final at Wimbledon.

"I'm just going to celebrate and take some time but there is another match to come. I've been working all my life for this. I've been dreaming of this since I started playing tennis when I was four."
