A gem from a little known and unfairly ignored band sadly no longer. How they were never massive is a mystery to me.
I actually saw him in Germany. He was pissed as a fart dressed as a pirate, his sword broke and some German grabbed it, Alex set about him and had to be hauled off stage by his manager.
He was unconcious for the remainder of the gig, the bass player ended up doing the vocals. My two mates ened up backstage drinking with the band (not SAHB, just some other guys who he used as his own), according to them he was only touring for the money to buy booze. The writing was on the wall I suppose.
There have been many like him who had the talent and wasted it do you remember a movie called That Sinking Feeling? it was set in Glasgow in the 70's... mostly Brigton if I remember right... I have a feeling he might have been in it, though my memory of it is vague.
Vaguely, I recall a lot of good Glasgow dramas in the 70s, The Bevellers with Roddy McDowall (ParaHandy) and Just another Saturday with Billy Connolly. Both pretty grim but truly excellent, up there with Boys From the Blackstuff.
Was actually an extra in a movie called The Big Man with Billy Connolly, he's a bit of a tosser. I actually really liked just another Saturday, was gritty as ****. That Sinking Feeling is more of a comedy
Aye I remember it, Liam Neeson. I've never met Connolly but I've not heard much good said about him by people who have. Like Robbie Coltraine, apparently he's a right grumpy bastard.
I used to do security for a place Coltraine would frequent regularly, and he always paid me well for paying particular attention to his antique Citroën,which was in mint condition. Yeah, didn't seem like the cheeriest **** in the world.
