We've had 4 bookings for simulation and really only one can be stated as an actual dive.

And that is the one against Hull with Willian, where he was not touched by the defender and anticipated contact.

Costa v Burnley - Heaton blatantly caught him and would have been sent off, right in front of a linesman too, who seem to do nothing.

Costa v Hull - Just because Willian and Cahill dived in this game people are immediately claiming that Costa dived too just because he got booked. Watch the footage of the incident and you clearly see Costa go down, but he doesn't claim a foul and gets straight back up to his feet, how is that a dive.

Fabregas v Southampton - No explanation evenneeded. Clear penalty.

Granted Cahill dived against Hull, no complaints there but hoe can going to ground when being caught or even touched by an opposing player(Ivanovic) be considered a dive. If anything it is a coming together.

As for diving in general, nobody shouting the odds about Barkely, Aguero etc going to ground to win penalties and just a few weeks ago James Milner won the softest pen you will ever see after a coming together with Jagielka.

Because refs have to made decisions immediately, the whistle can be blown before he even gets up. That's like saying a player can dive for a peno but if he doesn't appeal for a peno after diving he should not be booked. There was a little contact though in that case, I only call dive when there has been no contact or the attacker intentionally makes contact with the defender and goes down ala United's Young or Ramirez who is as divey as he is nasty.

Players flipflop under the slightest contact week in week out in almost all games, more annoying to me is the pretending to be hurt nonsense. That really drives me nuts.

Unfortunately there is an element of theatre to football and has been for a couple of decades.

This month the Chelsea broadway show is in town, next week it will be someone else :D The media will move on. Jose knows this but he knows also that no one is talking about Chelsea having a bit of a stutter of late with performances, which is what Jose is really about here, pure panto :)

Never been called illogical before. OK, paws up, I do eat uncooked blubber and don't always apologise for farting, but I always thought I was logical.

The release of the convo between line and ref over Cesc was very revealing though. Lino gave clear instruction "not simulation" repeated too. So why did reffypoos over rule? Lino heard him call simulation and was strident to let him know otherwise. Was it merely a fit of peak, dented ego, that made him ignore the lino? Surely that isn't cricket errrrrrrrrrr soccer ermmmmmm footy. Yes ref make mistakes but here we have a case where his helper who it was known had a clearer view gave unambiguous instruction. Yes this ref now does have to explain himself, because if he doesn't the suspicion can only be one of him cheating for some unexplained reason. In this case, for the officials sake they have to say either sorry I was wrong or give plausible explanation for their decision, because here we have a clear break down of the system supposedly meant to catch errors of judgement. Not to do so calls into question the whole point of that system regardless of what player or team involved.

Diving/simulation will never be eradicated. Footballers are always looking for an "edge", whether legally (exaggerating a foul) or illegally (see Stevie Me). With football as it is, cheating is (unfortunately) part of the game. Consider throw-ins and corners/goal kicks. Almost every time the ball goals off where opposing players are involved, both raise their hand with a claim that the other team put the ball out. If you can't stop cheating over a throw-in on the half way line, why chance have you got with a "tackle" in the penalty area?

Add in to that "injuries" where the player has clearly been shot (old school Drogba), although 2 seconds after the magic spray and they are ok, not kicking the ball out when your own player has it, but moaning when the opposition has it.....what chance is there really?

Two clear simulations at Palace today with Kane & Chaddli the perpetrators with Chaddli's being the worst this year. I'd wager if they'd both had blue shirts on they'd have been booked.

Seems you have your own Suarez type too, the guy has issues <laugh> When he's not flip flopping all over the shop, two clear dives from that clown last night, and 2 from Hazard.
