Another season is underway, hopes and dreams of titles and silverwear haunt the minds of Liverpool fans once again. Will it be another season where we fall short of our ambitions?

Over the years have we become divided? I don't mean as fans of Liverpool FC we all have that common bond, our opinions and expectations of the club though that is another matter.

When Kenny Dalglish was appointed manager the divide was still there not everyone thought it was the best appointment, could Kenny bring success back? Some were of no doubt that the club legend being appointed was the start of something special and there was success in the trophy that he won. I'm also glad that another generation had the opportunity to see this great man as our manager. Did his appointment bring us back together for a short time? When we got to the two cup finals most of us were looking to a bright future under Dalglish for many years to come.

We all know the story though, the Carling Cup win was not enough, the FA Cup Final defeat an excuse for the owners to look for a new manager for someone to lead the club into a new era, well that was the line they were spinning to us fans.

Brendan Rodgers was then appointed manager and once again split the fans some liked this new direction, a young manager with strong ideas on how to play football, others were not so sure that this was the right decision did this man have the experience and know how to take on such a huge undertaking?

And here we are again still divided on our opinions of the new manager his signings, the players he has sold and the direction of the club but united in our love of Liverpool FC.

There will be highs and lows once again throughout this season but we'll hang in there and hope that when all the football has been played there is a trophy in our hands once again and that our club is heading in the right direction. It's going to be a bumpy ride and many a discussion and heated argument will be had between ourselves but when all the talking is done just remember that we all have that common goal, that one hope, that one dream.

'At a football club, there's a holy trinity - the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don't come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques.'

It's just optimism v pessimism,imo.
I was optimistic when Kenny took over ( Christ, I was even optimistic when Woy took over!) and I'm optimistic now.
It's not exactly in my nature, I'm quite cynical about many things- it's just that I love football, and there are enough things in the world to make me a miserable ****er without footie doing it as well. It's a release from the mundane for me, and I want to enjoy it.
I'm still inconsolable for a day or two when we don't win a game, but then I'm just as up for the next one.

Our opinions differ but ultimately we all want the same. How we're going to achieve our ambitions is another matter, but one thing is for sure.. MFG doesn't rate Rodgers <whistle>

Yes. There is MFG. Then there is everyone else. :bandit:

cheap shot<whistle>

For me we're moving in the right direction, not rushing out and signing the most expensive players we can find, getting the finances right and going from there. This season will give a far better picture of where we are at football wise.

Kenny had so little time and probably the money spent v success was the nails that sealed his coffin. I think we'd have been just as well off if we didn't buy Carroll and Downing and bought no one instead, so we wasted 55 million quid that could have been spent on 8 or 9 up and coming players last year that we'd be benefiting from now and for a few years to come. I think there was a rush to get back to 2009 status and it did have an impact on how things turned out for Kenny although it was not all on him.

But he is a Liverpool fan and at time has a valid point, I pretty much disagree with everything he says but welcome that opportunity to rethink my rose tinted glasses view on Liverpool. <laugh>

Tobes has a similar contrarian role as a de facto Liverpool fan (spends all his time here, or on the Man Utd board insulting them).

I sometimes do agree with him, but like you said it's his opinion and he's entitled to it. Though I don't think Rodgers will ever win him round <laugh>.

I should be happy, as we started the season with a win.. But looking around at Spurs who are strengthening and Arsenal who will inevitably sign some good players, and us who are reportedly about to offer £10m for an 18 year old from Derby, it is killing my confidence a bit. + I still think Madrid will come in for Suarez if either Di Maria or Benzema leaves. A win on Saturday will do nicely <ok>

We'll all be happy enough while we are winning, our first defeat (long may it be in coming) will send this place into meltdown, but that's part of the fun for me but when the red mist clears I'll still love you all. <laugh>

I don't think there was anyone in the world who could have united the club as quickly as Kenny did when he first came in. His presence alone was enough to bring the fans back on side, cheering the team, supporting the club.

Tobes is a closet red, his posts are like the ex drunk dialling/texting at 3am to say he's over it when it's obvious he's definitely not. <laugh>

Put the mobile down Tobes, you'll be all head in hands remorse come the morning.

Back on topic, my own mind is divided and conflicted enough on our prospects for this season, part of me wants to harness that positivity and have total belief but the other is all portents of doom and gloom and fear of more averageness. I think this is endemic in LFC fans at the moment as we move through these uncertain times. If we sign two more players this window and hang on to the shamed one the situation will look brighter.

Isn't life wonderful?

Well you should bloody well believe it is when you're so blessed to be a REDMAN surrounded by millions of REDMEN around the world who live eat and sleep Liverpool Football Club. Sure we have different views upon players, systems, etc. etc. But when Liverpool score we all celebrate together. When we remember Hillsborough we cry together and demand justice. When the season starts we all wish and dream together.

We all live in a red and white Kop
A red and white Kop
A Red and white Kop

Ach it adds spice and colour.

I'm weird, I'm optimistic before a game, pessimistic out loud during it as if voicing every fear will stop them coming true which I'm sure might be a pain in the arse for those round me, if we win I'll brush over the odd concern, if we lose or draw I'll look at them in more depth for a couple of days until I start to get excited about the next game.

At end of day as a supporter I believe I have little control over who owns the club and who manages is it. Unless we're heading down the pan as I don't think we should march on the club at every dip at form or bad year.

I will never understand how anyone who says they support an entire football team will allow negative feelings about a manager or player to almost resent the rest of the team doing well while they are there. To somehow take satisfaction out of poor performances as evidence of how knowing or smart you are. This just doesn't sit with my definition of a supporter. But they pays there monies so can support according to their own definitions.

But then there are those who don't see how you can be a supporter if you don't live in the city and go to every game and I can honestly understand that point of view. I can't pair that view if the same people demand multi million players though as they are paid for by the outsiders but local teams for local community's is a noble dream.

The forum's big enough for us all!

Obviously, I have a dislike for Skrtel and I've disliked/not rated other players in the past too, but that never meant they didn't get my support when on the pitch. Hell, I don't have particularly high hopes for Borini or Allen but I still want them to succeed because it would be good for the club. As weird as it sounds, I always want players (that I don't want or don't want us to sign but do) to prove me wrong. I very pleased to say Sturridge and Coutinho have proved me wrong.

For someone to hope we lose to see something happen is just plain wrong. Even back to when we had H&G as owners I didn't want us to lose despite desperately wanting them to ****off!

Yeah, sod the rest of the season. :)

You know what I mean...lol

Similar to what you said above, get excited about a game, if we win cant wait for next weeks game. if we lose, pissed off for a few days and then just look forward to the next game.

Alot of people are down because we havent signed Pele or Messi, but we are playing attractive football, have a wealth of oung players to be exciteda bout, a good atmosphere in the dressing room, owners who know what they are doing, abritish but non-english manager and we have conceded a goal all season ina competitive game.

I dont see what there is to be miserable about.

Now three years ago, when we were going down the ****ter, had those two fools off of trading places running our club, a team that nearly made it visibly decaying and a manager whos vocabulary consists of 4-4-2 (Said Ala Matt Damon on team America.)

Then i was upset, but all is good now.
