Have to agree with you, DVD. I thought he looked a lot sharper when Keith P played him as a striker. He can finish, but his wing play has never really impressed me.

I still think Waggy can be a class act for us.

    Elliott
    Solly
    ????
    Mambo
    Evina
    Waggy
    Hollands
    Alonso
    Harriott
    BWP
    Hayes

As an impact sub Waggy has the potential to be a matchwinner, running at tired defences and all that.

My memory may well be playing tricks on me here, but did Waggy not start Powell's first game against Plymouth up front? He scored that day (albeit from a sloppy back pass). I don't think it's been tried since, but would we worth another look I reckon.

I think our midfield is starting to look very good,if we get Green and Stephens in. We need another forward a big lump like Steve Howard would do. The defence worries me a lot Francis,Doc,Fortune,Llera,Dailly are not good enough for a Championship chasing team.

Personally I think Waggy is great, one for us to be proud of, but I agree he seems to be a bit anonymous at times when played every game. His performances with Solly instead of Francis behind him are his best ones, with both right-siders having played together for years. For me, chances of promotion would be far higher with this squad:

    Elliott
    Solly
    NEW CB
    NEW Left footed CB
    Evina (tempted to say Youga)
Waggy (or Green if we get him)
    Alonso
    Hollands
Jackson (or a new, pacy Left Mid)
    Hayes
    BWP

Would ideally like us to bring in a target man - I dont want us playing hoofball, but at times, we will need a plan B, or at least just somebody to put on for the last ten minutes who the defence can whack it up to in order to count down the last few minutes. I'm not convinced by Jackson as first choice left-mid, I know he scored plenty last season but to me, thats all he did, he lacks pace and is pretty anonymous, plus I fear his goal-scoring input last season was a one-off. Two new CB's is a must, with a complete clearout of Doherty, Fortune and Dailly. Ideally I'd like Llera to sign another contract but doubt it will happen. I would also like to see a new, tall RB brought in and us selling off Francis - we need to build a team capable of competing in the Championship and Francis is simply nowhere near that level.

Personally, I think Waggy has become a bit of a fall-guy. There are players who started loads of games last season who should never have worn the shirt, but Waggy has a couple of iffy games and then sits it out for weeks on end.
Stick him in the team, give him a good run and he will come good.

Waggy definitely a better striker than winger... we need a winger who can cross the ball? He's been given plenty of games, seems to do the job more frequently from the bench.
Despairing that everyone seems to be including Solly in a team we're designing to get promoted? Short, weak, can't pass, can't cross... admit he's a better tackler than Francis, but so is a brick.

    Elliott

Semedo/New RB, New CB, New CB, Evina
New RW (Green), Hollands, Alonso, Jackson
    BWP, Hayes

I think a strong subs bench is important, at present we have

    Sullivan/Elliot (GK)
    Mambo (RB/CB)
    Francis (RB)
    Doc (CB)
    McCormack (CM)
    Harriott (LM)
    Benson (CF)

Not strong enough, we need to remove Francis (?) McCormack and Doc

This means we need THREE new centre backs and a centre midfielder.

Warren and Popo need to go out on loan somewhere to get used to adult football so I wouldn't want them on the bench.

Welcome to the site Redemption <ok>

Two new CB, Dailly's fine as a sub... and assuming Green comes through you can add Waggy to that, which improves the attacking options.

Thanks for welcome... glad to be here...

Sorry lads, but as I said in a previous thread, you are not good enough yet. Look at your team, and how many Championship worthy players do you have?
The only one you did have has come to us.
Also think your manager is not good enough

With respect, TC we don't need 'Championship worthy players' - whatever they are - all we need this season is players of a sufficiently high quality to get us out of this sh*t division.

As for Chris Powell, let's see what he does with a team that he's built, rather than one he's inherited.

Can we quote you on that when you realise how many goals/assists our ex-Championship worthy player actually contributes in a season... if you get above the fingers of one hand it'll be an improvement on his league 1 effort...
Besides... you're desperate for McCormack in your team... please be... or any team... just take him... we'll pay... please?

TVR - Racon was statistically your best player last season - didn't see him play so can't comment on his performances.

As we know (took us 5 seasons) League 1 is a very hard league to get out of, and I don't think you are there yet. Preston and Sheff Utd improved towards the back end of last season, and I think they will be the strong teams - Huddersfield have been knocking on the door last couple of seasons and expect them to be there too.
Also think Chesterfield maybe the dark horses of the League.
I think you should be aiming for a top 8 finish - nothing more!!

TC, no statistics can show someone to be "the best player". Wright-Phillips scored 20 something goals altogether last season but is technically not a very good player, how do statistics show that? Do statistics differentiate between a tap-in and a 40-yard screamer, or between a pretty bogstandard assist and one where the ball is hoofed from the other side of the pitch? You admit you haven't seen Racon play so its a bit bold to refer to him as our best player <ok>

With all that being said, I always liked Racon, simply due to his flair and the way he plays like a winger in the middle of the park. But to be honest, he has 1 good game per every 6 poor ones.

WWOCB, Similar views about Racon... desperately wanted to like him as he did have flair and had touches of class... great assist a few games from the end (shockingly forgotten the details of the end of last season for obvious reasons) that no-one else in the squad would have managed... but it was literally once every 34 games, and he was frighteningly absent for the rest of the time.
TC... statistically Racon was tied for 12th in assists last season... with 1. Tied for 5th for goals... with 5... 1 ahead of the prolific Pawel Abbott. He did, however, concede more fouls than anyone except Semedo, and manage more passes to the opposition keeper... I mean shots on target... than any other player in the squad. Bear in mind he also had more games than anyone else except Semedo to achieve this magnificent 5 goal, 1 assist tally (he was meant to be our creative midfielder).
Agree with your points about the other teams, mind... think Sheff Utd are on a downward trend they'll find it hard to address, think Wednesday will actually be more of a threat in the end... but otherwise can't argue.

And why the hell would anyone aim for a top 8 finish? Top 1 finish is the aim, top 2 finish is acceptable, top 6 finish... well if it means a play-off victory then so be it. But anything else and the club goes another several seasons backwards in the rebuild...
