Had a pretty heavy session over the weekemd, staying up in Glasgow for a couple of nights, so decided to sample a couple of new restaurants. Saturday night went to Bibimbap a Korean restaurant.- no idea if it's a chain but first time I've ever eaten Korean food. Was just hoping there wasn't any dog on the menu! Had Pork Kimchi starter with a soy based dip, very similar to chinese dumplings and very tasty followed by a huge portion of Korean Fried Chicken, deep in a very light, almost sweet batter alongside a spicy Yum Yum sauce - lush. Sunday night we hit Halloumi, a new Greek meze restaurant in the city centre. Fabulous. Huge portions of humous and tahini with flatbreads, chicken souvlaki, spetsofai (spicy sausage in tomato based sauce), stiffado (beef and shallot stew) and keftedes (lamb meatballs). Tastiest meal I've had for a long time, although I had been drinking for several hours beforehand! Will definately be going back there
It's beginning to look a lot like christmas Not what I'm eating tonight, but as a cheese-aholic, I always stock up on a nice selection for chrimbo. Plenty of biscuits, pickled onions, chutneys and a nice port to go with - A nice Charcoal cheddar. A 20 month matured, vintage reserved barbers cheddar. A lovely Mature blue Stilton. Snowdonia Black bomber mature cheddar. Harlechs Welsh cheddar with horseradish and parsley. A Welsh cheddar with chili and tomato. Chilli and lime aged red leicester. A cracking little Pave d'affinois cremeux. And a Spiced honey and rum yorkshire wensleydale. Let the festivities begin
Pre-chrimbo dinner tonight. Smoky sausage chii with carrots, celery, Chipotle and garlic. Served with basmati rice, coriander, red chillies, tortilla chips and sou........ Well, supposedly soured cream but like a slightly inebriated numpty i forgot it Lovely, winter-warmer!
Tonight's nosh - Leftover 3-bird roast (turkey, chicken and duck) curry inspired by a Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall recipe. With carrots, parsnips, onion and garlic. Topped with coriander and toasted almonds. Served with white rice, Naan and a lovely curried chutney!
Give it a few more days and I’m gonna hire @Hoop-Leif as my personal chef. If he washes up too, I’m ****ing sleeping with him on the first date!
Cheese and Wine tonight......... Selection of Goats Cheese, Cambazola and Brie......... washed down with a wonderful Banyuls Vin Doux Naturel......... 16.5% abv so not as strong as a Port but a fortified wine from the Languedoc Roussillon region........ highly recommended......
Domino’s pizzas washed down with party games and alcohol (for those not doing the Dry January like wot I is). Got my kids, their partners and my wee Scots lass and her daughter over for fun, frolics and Jackson Pollacks.
Sunday lunch - Mexican chicken burger marinated in Chipotle and lime juice, topped with emmental cheese. With mashed avocado, cherry tomatoes, garlic and pickled jalapeno peppers on a brioch bun. Served with home-made skin-on fries and sour cream. (And a nice white wine)
That looks tasty! I'm going to be poncing it in Chester tomorrow, and Cov on Tuesday night - might pop round for tea!
How come your poncing it in those two places mate? If I'd had a bit more notice you probably actually could have dropped in for tea! I'm literally 15 minutes away. Pity you weren't down here for the Cov game in a few weeks.
