Finally got an early finiah so managed to get into the kitchen today. Knocked up a tasty prawn balti, with lentils and served with Iron Brew battered chicken pakora... Yummy! Followed by salted caramel cheesecake
I always thought the basic food groups were beans, bacon, whisky and lard. Looks like I’m going to have to sub in Irn Bru for whisky…..
Good question - no idea!! It's the first time I've seen them, so had to buy them and give them a go - well worth it. According to jnr, someone did this on Tik-Tok (not on it, so couldn't say) and it went viral up here, so they started making it in a lot of places and now Aldi sell it - we get a lot of local produce in there, so don't know if it'll make it down to you guys
Not sure what I'll be having, but I can tell you what I won't be having...anything from M&S...shutting all their Paris stores.
I was with a couple of visiting American business colleagues a while ago and one of them was heading to Paris. I recommended he try the Vietnamese food, which was met with silence. After a few seconds the other guy leaned across and said, 'Pete won't be going to no Vietnamese joints'. Get over it.
My anniversary meal for my wife and I. Beef, potato, banana and onion curry with tamarind paste, coriander and lemongrass. Served with basmati rice, toasted cashews and crispy onion strips. Oh, and Irn Bru. Yum.
Hoop, are you teetotal? Surely a bit of fizzy wine for an anniversary if not (and no criticism implied if you are). Did you enjoy the Specials gig?
No, not teetotal mate. Went out last night with all my oldest mates for the first time in almost 3 years and had.....let's just say quite a few! That, coupled with a really irritating chesty cough ( not covid! ) meant I wasn't in the mood for anything alcoholic today. Yes, really enjoyed the gig, thought they put on a really good show. ( tagged you in a post on the music thread a few days back )
We get loads of stuff made with Irn Bru... Irn Bru chocolate, Irn Bru Solero (they are the bomb!), Irn Bru humbugs, the lot good job I love it
No, I've always preferred the diet/sugar free - same as all fizzy drinks. They changed the Irn Bru recipe a couple of years ago to reduce the sugar in the original and people went absolutely nuts, started hoarding it all before the old stock sold out! It is the miracle cure for hangovers
My mum was 82 today. We took her to the gardens of Buckingham Palace on Friday after a spot of lunch in an Aberdeen Steak House. First time we'd ever been in one. It was ok, Our server was Polish so I practised my basic knowledge of the language on her. I've done Buck House before when I was based at Westminster fire station thirty odd years ago. We used to have to do drills and familiarisation visits there every September when the Queen was away. It was a bit weird sitting on the rear terrace looking at the the same spot where a young ninesy ( 23 yrs old ) once stood in all his fire gear. It seemed a lifetime ago. I can still remember the day clearly though. Yesterday, we took my youngest to Nottingham Uni, it took over five hours to get there due to an incident on the M1. Got there in time for the final minutes of our game v Bristol City, where by all accounts we were seeking the winner. I was talking to a family from Manchester who were dropping their daughter off when my youngest exclaimed ... Nahki Wells has just scored the ****ing winner against us dad. What a snake! She and the Manchester girl have become mates. Roast leg of lamb from Sainsbury's today for Sunday dinner. It was awful and very fatty.
I make a lovely lemon posset and shortcake biscuits, even if I do say so myself. I make it with a raspberry compote and chocolate shavings. I'll try and post pictures the next time I try it.
Sunday brunch today - eggs benedict with Parma ham, asparagus and chives. My first attempt to replicate a fabulous dish I first tried in N.Y.C. Very happy with the taste, though not quite the finished article. Need some practice getting those poached eggs perfectly runny!
