Do not work for free whatever the circumstances except voluntary work that you want to do......dont let the government of the hook by getting the unemployment figures down for their benefit not yours.....they have put you in that position by privatising every bloody thing and closing anything and everything that could not afford their business rates to run their businesses anymore. every 4th shop now is a charity shop or a betting shop......there are no meaningful jobs about and the ones that there are have a waiting list as long as a piece of string.

It's not very profitable for the company, training is very expensive because it requires a full time employee or somebody contracted out from a training specialist agency. But the numbers are better than having the 2.5m on the dole doing absolutely nothing when others say the work for free system is unfair, companies are collapsing and the more jobs are being lost.

Guys, some of you are interpreting this wrongly.

The post in question is NOT a 'job' as we define it: work rewarded through remuneration, but a learning post: facilities, technology and experience provided to facilitate ongoing learning. They should not be compared as they are intrinsically different opportunities.

Businesses regularly open up their facilities to enable the future growth and development of a particular science or discipline, a graduate accepts these opportunities in order to continue with his/her educational quest.

As far as the Swans are concerned, they have offered a post where successful candidates may continue their education and complete their Masters or PH'ds. To facilitate this they offer their facilities:

full use of relevant software technology: unavailable to individuals outside of the environment,
full use of all hardware technology; cameras, high speed video rec et al, unavailable to individuals and academia due to prohibitive cost,
full access to our under 21 squad,
full access to the expertise of current staff in-situ,
full access to historical data, the list goes on......................

The successful candidates are there to continue their post graduate education, complete academic papers, improve their CV and greatly increase their chances of gaining a successful career in a hyper competitive industry.

In general, the growth (expansion) and future of many sciences and diciplines are totally dependent on the continued education of today's graduates through the use of tomorrows prohibitive technologies. The prohibitive costs, or complications, in many cases put these technologies out of reach of individuals and academia and the only way to ensure its future development is for industry to open their facilities to young graduates.

    Kudos to the Swans
