If referees applied the little rules (dissent, diving) properly and retrospectively it would go some way to stopping dirty tackles in my opinion.

If you have to follow the little rules, it becomes clearer that the bigger ones are not to be broken. Players take far too many liberties these days imo.

thats ok in theory but if every little thing was penalized it would make for very frustrating watching and i suppose playing. i think the biggest issue that needs to be sorted is common sense from both players and the referees

My PE teacher was a legend, anyone who dived never got any 50/50 decisions there way, even some 60/40 and 70/30 decisions. It taught them

I hate the rules on tackles in football now. What is the one of the main things that gets you off your seat and clapping? A well executed tackle. So how can we go around punishing players who slightly mistime tackles or get them wrong? Are we going to start giving yellow cards to players who miss shots? Tackling is an intrinsic part of football and it must be realised that players can't always get every tackle right. A yellow card should only be given to a consistent fouler or clearly cynical fouls. Red cards should only be given for extremely dangerous tackles or when someone prevents a clear goal scoring opportunity. If a player gets the ball first, no matter how hard, he has got the ball and has not done anything unfair.
