Just wondering what your thoughts are:

Dimitri Payet allegedly on strike as he wants a transfer.
Should and are West Ham legally allowed to withhold salary as player has effectively broken HIS contract with the club by refusing to play?
And, surely if he wants to leave, shouldn't he repay the £1million pound loyalty bonus he received in Sept?
 
Must admit I'd be pleased if a club took a stand against a player in this type of situation and stopped his wages and pursued previous "loyalty" payments to be repaid. Unfortunately as we all know the player so some reason has all the power and normal employment rules don't seem to apply in Football. Billic should just say that he will no longer play for West Ham and they will freeze his 5 year (?) contract that he signed only a few months ago and that they will refuse to release him from it or pay him until it expires. It may well end up at some tribunal or other but the club has to have some protection against this sort of player power, even if it is West Ham in this instance!!!!!!

Diego Costa now rumoured to be on his way to China. Sheer greed, especially when you are on the verge of winning major trophies with your present club. Begs the question, what chance do we have of keeping hold of our better players?

my thoughts are he should honour his contract, but that won't happen. When you got players unhappy you need to get shot sharpish. If it was possible I'd withhold his wages, but all the powers are now with the player not the club. I hope that answers your question Tramore and am rewarded with a like:emoticon-0105-wink:

It's about time one of these spoilt Prima Donna's was properly taken to task and sued for damages including their full transfer fee. The clubs invest a fortune and pay a fortune to these people and should at the very, very least be entitled to reasonably expect the player put a shift in. I'd hope other teams would take stock of this behaviour and just blackball players who behave in this petulant manner.

The problem is that clubs are so keen to sign these players that they will agree to add anything to the player's contract that their agent asks for rather than lose them to a rival. That would include most penalty clauses and restricts fines for misdemeanors to a limited number week's wages.

It's a pity one club doesn't grow a pair and tie one of these people up in years of litigation making it all but impossible for them to play again. I guess in so doing the club would find themselves possibly struggling to attract new players though.

Most players don't have a strong allegiance to their club. Money rules and they are playing for money, not pride or love of the game. A few make 'enough' to at some stage want to 'win' something. For the most part these days players are employees with an eye on a chance to make more money.
