Why should Tarbs be cut any slack? They are all responsible for the position we were in last season, personally I believe there just wasn't enough quality in the team for the majority of the season. This Taarabt love in is all well and good, and yes he's supremely talented, I won't deny it. I'm fully aware that my views differ from most on this forum. I love a player with flair, having been brought up on Marsh & Bowles, but these days they need to be TEAM players, and I'm afraid Taarabt is definitely not one of those!
I'm not so sure, I thought Warnock dropping Taarabt was actually a decent move. Tarbs hadn't been playing at all well, and dropping him showed he wasn't above reprimand. And, when Tarbs finally did come back into the team, (around Christmas/January if I remember correctly?) he seemed sharper, fitter and, as has been remarked upon, his work rate picked up tenfold, which we only really saw the fruits of after Warnock had been replaced by MH. Warnock did get some things wrong, but I personally thought his management of Taarabt was spot on.
I was really upset the way Adel let the ball slip through his fingers in the City game from Zabaletas shot, also the way he surrendered the right hand side against that drubbing by Chelsea, the pass straight to Man Ure which Scholes scored.... football is a team game where the coolective are to blame not just one individual. I dont hear you having a go at Cisse yet he missed half the games he could have played for us, Adel is not above reproach but he is also not going to defend like Derry as that is not his game. The season we were promoted he was given a free reign and that is where the problem lays, as it is hard to then shackle that same peron to a more defensive role especially when he is still learning the game and developing. The team went onto the pitch and the team lost, won or drew so singling out one player for causing out situation is daft. Look at Helguson who would have thought that he would be as good as he was last season when in the Championship was dire.
Well said H E Of course it was. He was playing dreadful at the time, flirting with other Clubs and storming out of grounds at half time if memory serves.
Getting back on track......... ................. There is no doubting his quality but I am not sure if he is a MH type of player, age wise yes I just dont think he has the workrate and aptitude required. If we do sign him I wont be disappointed though.... Ouch these splinters hurt from this fence I am sitting on...
Adel's a legend, he dragged us up to where we are now with his goals in a season that will never be forgotten. Can Berbatov claim anything similar? Of course not.
Its shows how deluded some are when they claim a guy that's never had a single decent top-flight season has done more than a CL and multiple PL winner. Beggars belief.
He showed last season that he can be a team player, when managed correctly. It takes all sorts to make a successful team and even with the players brought in last year, we still needed him to be at his best towards the end to avoid relegation and we still massively relied on him so, for that, he deserves some slack in my opinion.
Nonsense. If you think we should be grateful for him finally deciding to do what he should have been doing all along, then you're out of your mind. As far as I'm concerned Mackie, Hill and Cisse were far more influential in keeping us up. Tarbs did play his part mind. Its just a pity he didn't do it sooner and we mightn't have been in the dog fight in the first place.
Of course they were over the course of the season but Taarabt showed that with some decent guidance he's still our best player. His head was turned by his agent and he thought he was better than he was which was far from ideal for a guy who is still little more than a kid. It wasn't helped by Warnock not having what it took to get the best out of him.
I'm not going to keep harping on so I'll leave it at this. I just can't agree with any of that post! He's not a kid anymore at 23 so he shouldn't be needing any "guidance" at his age. Hes a grown man that shouldn't allow his agent dictate things (if that's what actually happened) and COLIN managed him better than anyone could have the season before so I don't know what more he could have done. I'll not accept all these excuses being put up for what was essentially a spoiled brat having a tantrum that lasted a number of months. We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one
