I passed my driving test in January 1986 just before my 19th birthday.
There were roadworks there at that time - when they were getting rid of the flyover.
If you’re working on that development it must be a job for life!!!!

They will be a thing of the past, we can’t get the construction vehicles to site now without a massive surcharge

Yep that's the one. So we have yet another costly and pointless hand out by the council which will be joining all the other rubbish receptacles that they've given us over the years that we don't ever use to sit in our shed.

I do all of my paper, cardboard, glass, cans, and plastic recycling at Sainsburys. Twice as easy and efficient so I should therefore get a Council Tax rebate.

We (Bristol households) have actually been doing the job for Bristol Waste for years anyway, in terms of the frequency of the refuse collections halving to being fortnightly, and us, the households themselves, having to split out the various elements and not being allowed to put grass cuttings in the bin etc. And the small brown waste food container was just a disgusting and vermin/Fox attracting idea to start with.

Needless to say ours has never been used.

Back in the day homes used to give the dustbin men a Xmas tip. Nowadays, they simply don't deserve it.

That is spot on.....Absolute waste of time IMO.......We should adapt the Spanish system...designated spaces, some are layby's with large coloured bins, even some that are chutes in the pavements....collected every few days......so much easier and no, numerous amount of bins outside your front door or that's been blown down the road.
Has to be better for pollution too as the truck isn't stopping every few metres......Yeah but that's just common sense, so that's not gonna happen in Bristol!!! :emoticon-0103-cool:

weve had our blue bag for almost a year I notice sometimes it goes in the same shute on the truck as the other paper stuff!
diesel lorries start up at ?am early and are not switched off till parked up for the night ?pm [ except in summer, for breaks, sometimes ... although often leave running with fan on cold on hottest days ]
these lorries should be electric ..although the argument on some would be need to drive the hydraulics etc ...

It's going to be interesting with all these electric vehicles how the grid will cope...everyone charging at the same time.....bad enough when everyone uses the kettle at the same time <laugh>

with immigration the population of the UK has taken a big hike in the last 20 years [ 8 million ], one thing that has kept up due to wind farms and solar is electricity...simply because the old generators coal nuclear water etc are still on line [ most of them ] and there is the odd gas fired ones that have started up in the last 15 years.

every house in the uk being built should have solar water and electricity … just by raising std water supply by a few degrees it saves a lot of electricity to heat it.
most kettles boil to 100c but if regulated to 90c [ common use is for drinks ] that is fine for tea and coffee .. which,as the experts say do not need boiling water. Millions of gallons of water is reheated umpteen times during a day in kettles … waste of money and resource!

My point was, that if every household had electric cars now, the "Grid" as is, would not cope! Especially if charged at peak times...I certainly wouldn't buy one for a good 5 years after release, there is a lot of technology to go, to get them right..

    Ours is simple over here.
    Red bag for paper, cardboard.
Purple bag for plastics and similar.
Yellow bag if needed for nappies.
(When I say bag I mean a different coloured black bin bag)
Tub you put your food waste bags in.
    All collected once a week.

    Black box for Glass
    Black bin bag
    All collected every two weeks.

it’s that simple my black bag is only ever half full.

They do charge an additional £20 year for garden waste, which is collected once a week.

a friend of mine has had 1 for almost 2 years and never had a problem … except that until recently last 6 - 9 months charging points have been scarce but runs on diesel as well

love your spade! you are comparing now with the future, now we have surplus energy and in the future the 2 will mesh together whether charged peak or off peak as additional power is brought on line. here in the south we have very few wind turbines, on my last journey to NW Scotland as soon as we passed the m6 junction for WIGAN PIER we started counting wind turbines before we got to ULLAPOOL it was over 800 and that is only what you can see from the main road. Most of these are from 2009, and I know there are over 50 behind the west hill at Glascarnoch and a load more out of site at Garvin as well as more than a 100 on the Gairloch coast approach road and coast road to fort William that's over 1000, and plans to double that in the next few years! so I wouldn't worry to much about charging in the future

oh and there is acres and acres of solar panels on hills and fields as well …. oh yes hydro electric at least 2 new large installations in the past 3 years … and Hinckley and a load of gas generators.
we will never totally be dependant on the renewable options until the population drops to about 4.5bn …..
