Hope so Billy - there was a development before the QPR game. I say Thursday because it's likely it will come up in CP's pre match press conference, so let's see what he says then.
He's been with us since he was 11, so it would be a wrench to leave, especially now that he is in the first team. That's the way to keep them, give them a chance in the first team. And they won't let you down, Harry Lennon showed that recently when he was given his debut out of position. Hopefully we will start to see more young players on the bench in the not-too-distant future.
I wasn't at QPR, so I'll take your word for it that he was poor. It's worth bearing in mind that he was playing on the right, not his favoured position, against a Premier League quality player, but I've no problem accepting, as I've already said, that he has been poor this season. Nor that his shooting has always been bad. I was taking issue with your description of his career at Charlton as a 'joke', which is far more appropriate for someone like Frank Nouble or Alan McCormack than a player who made a decent contribution to the success of the last 2 seasons. Pritchard was also playing on the right because one of the other options, Danny Green, has never been consistently good enough to nail down a place, and because the other, Wilson, had to play at right back owing to Solly's injury. So your argument that Powell persisting with Pritchard is what set back Poyet doesn't really hold; Stephens and Cousins had formed a good partnership in the middle, and I don't think many were calling for Stephens to be dropped in favour of Poyet. Now he's gone, of course, Poyet has been able to step up, and has done so magnificently. Given that Cousins, Poyet, Lennon, Solly, Harriot, Pigott, and Azeez have all to varying degrees featured in the first team under Powell, I don't think it's fair to say that he takes no interest in the academy. I take on board what FHB says about Powell not watching games. He probably should.
Maybe he has complete confidence in the guys who draw fat salaries to develop and manage the youngsters.
Can someone update me on the Poyet siging/contract scenario... where we stand as at right now i mean. As all the threads read as though he is as good as gone and signed elsewhere.
I waited for the players after the game (not having work today was a benefit) and young Poyet was whistling when I was young, I had to join in which got a nice smile from the young lad. He played out of his socks again.
Paul, This is starting to sound a bit scary mate, you'll be turning up at their houses with birthday cards next
I am very confident Poyet wants to stay here as long as possible. I tweeted the following last night. "@diegopoyet7 needs a new deal. We have a gem there, and it would be nice to see a player have a career on the pitch not the bench!" He favourited the tweet. Honestly think he can be a bigger player for us than Scotty Parker was. His hunger and work rate remind me of Scotty, and the thought of him being loyal and wanting to be remembered for the right reasons and having a long playing career with a club that want him. Too often we see promising young players make a big money move, rot for a few years, then get sold off a few seasons later with hardly an appearance to their name, and having to start all over again. I think that is the problem with our national side, we see young players doing well and looking like gems, then they get sold off for big money and kill their career. Scott Sinclair at Swansea, Adam Johnson at Boro, there are loads. Even Zaha was looking good and then goes to United and has not played. Clubs and national sides need young hungry players to be playing every week, not having a year or two without playing a competitive game
Remember unlike a lot of young players he has no financial pressure to secure his parents future. I imagine that makes a big difference. How would you feel if as a teenager you could sign a piece of of paper that ment your parents never had to work again, especially if you were from a working class back ground.
Spot on Jimmy Remember when Sinclair said joining Swansea from Chelsea was the best move he ever made as he was playing week in week out...then he joined Man City
