True, there's quite often debate about that too. If it's any consolation to you, when I was watching the game and realised what happened with Shawcross and Ramsey, I was furious and calling for him to be banned from the game and sent to jail :p, but I've mellowed out and realised that legally this would be very unlikely. Still, it doesn't stop me hating the guy. :emoticon-0148-yes:

Well if the law does not follow the opinions and ideals of its people, then it is based on the arbitrary views of a dictator. In a democratic country, the law follows the will of the people. This is natural and correct.

so this is a democratic country? Its traditions and many laws go back centuries, but the great majority are formed by the will of the ESTABLISHMENT. In that I include the Church (of England).
Now take your MP. The local party has a clique of power hungry members. It decides who will be put forward for selection as a prospective parliamentary candidate. Central Office vetoes and suggest which one it would prefer. Usually what they want goes. In elections the public votes normally without even reading the manifesto, meeting the candidate or debating other views. A candidate gets elected. A three line whip ensures the MP toes the line according to the policy determined by the PM, Cabinet and a close group of influential advisors.
    This is a Democracy...... enjoy.

To be honest, if an MP votes on a ridiculous law to be passed that's really hated by the public, they're most likely not going to get elected again.

exactly- the MPs decide the laws directly (prompted by the Establishment) - without reference to the people, who mostly are apathetic.

True enough, but if MPs agree to pass a controversial law (e.g. tuition fees), some people will whip up a storm, which'll carry through the media and then people will suddenly care. But in the main, you're right, parliament can enforce crappy laws and if the media doesn't make a meal out of it, people wouldn't know any better.

Hi mate, yeah it was well funny to watch too as I stand right by the away fans and you guys were not impressed lol. It was nearly as funny as when we did the Poznan to the Man City fans after Crouch scored his wonder goal :)
