I'd probably have yelled at the bloke (I have a good yell on me) and started to walk towards him at a steady pace. Steady, but not too quick, like. He'd have to think about what to do and if he pulled a knife at least I'd see it. The problem starts when you get up to him, if he hasn't already legged it. Face to face you have no choice but to get yours in sharpish before he gets his in. Then get the **** out of there before the cops come, checking to see how the girl is first. Nasty dilemma...

Tash you did the right thing. A lot of people will walk away there sadly. People who say you should 'instinctively' walk over are chatting ****, because you can't pre determine instinct.

My dad once told me when he was 18/19 (we are talking 40 years ago) he saw a young pregnant lady getting stick from some prick in a bus stop. He tells him he's out of order, nothing more, and gets the worst pasting of his life. Had he called the police what would have happened?

Domestic violence happens all to often, more than people like to think. Where I live and work I see a lot of people getting arrested for 'smaller' Dv incidents to full on sexual assaults. The sad part is a lot of women will stay with partners for a long time after incidents like these.you were not in the wrong this dick head was.violence needs to be dealt with differently by the cjs and not just put down to alcohol or coke.

Side note, the kebabs in newcastle are ****e and I can't sleep. Not about to pace up and down the quay mind :p

Tash I think you did the right thing. Had you had a mobile phone you would have called the cops and that may or may not have given you the incentive to yell out that you had called them etc, since you didn't I think you did as much as you could have and some of the things that people have mentioned on here may have been going through your head such as getting a kicking/stabbed yourself etc or landing yourself into bother with the fuzz had you given him a kicking.

At least you were there and saw what was going on, and I'm sure had he dragged her out of sight or things got a lot worse then you may have taken a different course of action.

As it stands its all sorted out now. Like a lot of people on here have said, a number of people would have just turned a blind eye to it. The fact that it is bothering you a bit proves that you are a decent human being so try not to let it affect you too much mate, its done and dusted with now and no harm has been done hopefully.

I would have probably done the same thing as you. I can handle myself quite well I feel having done kick boxing (and seen a lot of Seagal films), but I still don't think I would just wade into a situation like that, not knowing if someone is tooled up with a knife or something worse.

Chin up fella, more important business to get back to this weekend...like the Toon giving Fulham a pasting....hopefully.

Gotta take my hat off to ya coming on here and being so honest about it as well, good on ya.

Don't beat yourself up, mate. How do anyone of us know what we would do when our insides our churning up?

I do appreciate how you feel, though. My Dad used to say there was something wrong with a dog if he attacked a bitch. It is just something that seems alien to nature, for a male to attack a female. Even when my sister attacked me, I refused to retaliate, so the message obviously got through. I hope the bloke faces due legal process and the girl is alright.

I like your candour and I give you my best wishes.

I would have done that if I could think properly, but the whole night in itself was just too much for me to handle. I was out walking because I was pissed off at something else, and this comes along. My brain couldn't adjust.

I was fueled with anger, and I'm sure I could have done damage to him and helped her, but I'm not he-man, and I didn't think the odds of me beating him were good enough to risk it. I could have got beaten up and she would have been hurt afterwards.

I've just got a couple more references to sort out and I've got my new job starting soon, so I'm happy everyone was ok in the end.

I've been in a similar situation. In my formative years with a mate on a bus full of old people. Apart from some scallywag and his bird. She was in bits becasue she 'lost a ring' or something. Scary stuff, but thats Brandon for you.

I'd have probably waved my magic stick at him... You were definitely right to go with the non-indecent exposure route, however. #Gandalfbaby
