PS As I wrote on another thread. A step for England to be Spursy... better than Englandy.

Your opinion. Clearly Southgate and previous England managers disagree with you as they keep picking him.

It’s already been said many times that we don’t have that creative midfielder that we badly need. Our midfield last night was up against two world class players in Modric and Rakitic, the best we could hope for was to try and slow them up and deny them so much possession. Which is why I would have put Dier alongside Henderson.

That can also invite more pressure like it did v Colombia and we then conceded deservedly. We were controlling game until Dier came on. Sometimes fortune favours the brave.

If we had started with Dier + Hends v Croatia we would have ceded even more possession. At least we attacked in the first half, we wouldn't have done with Dier

And that last bit is the reason we are out, we had no plan B. IMO Southgate isn't a particularly good manager when it comes to tactics and I said before the tournament started that I thought it was a mistake to take Vardy, Wellbeck AND Rashford over a target man. I would've taken either Crouch or Carroll over Wellbeck, knowing neither would start a game, but they would offer something different, which is exactly what was needed in both of the games we lost.

If I really want to blame someone though, I blame The Telegraph, because Allardyce would've won that match.

I wouldn’t have started with both, but once I saw the way things were developing then yes, for want of a creative midfielder, I’d have settle for trying to disrupt their game instead.

Allardyce would have had us out in the Group stage; and been photographed in a hotel bedroom surrounded by hookers and vodka. Whilst Andy Carroll waited in a Moscow cell for Fat Sam to come and bail him out.

I think for the good of the country, we should let spurs win the league cup this year

Agree. Even Belgium hit it long to Fellaini when they needed to, with varying degrees of success (Japan) and failure (France)

OK. Dier isn't **** but was poor in Russia.

Anyone Spursy is a massive upgrade on other England campaigns,

But England like Spurs will never win anything until they stand up when pressure is on in big games.

However the World Cup has been great, in part thanks to England and some of the Spurs lads

It would be a massive achievement for them. If their players are going to represent England, then a winning mentality needs to be instilled in them.

Imo, we took it as far as we could,

Emotions and all this coming home bollocks can’t disguise that we’re really not that good.

In the end we came up against the first really decent side we’d encountered and were found wanting. I won’t count Belgium as that only proved that their reserve side is better than ours.

All the finger pointing won’t disguise the fact that we’re just not as good as all the hype,

Agreed. Team spirit can only get you so far. In the end the lack of quality in the squad was exposed when we came up against a decent side.

The mistake they made was starting Fellaini against France, rather than bringing him on if the passing game wasn't working.

Tbf @The Liebherr Legacy your first thread of premature overexcitement "It's Coming Home" followed by this thread, crying in your beer after reality bites, sounds like most Spuds fans in any typical season <laugh>

You're not a closet spud are you? :bandit:

Agree with all this. But with Kane and Alli at their very best, possibly fitter, could we have given Croatia a better game?

Obviosuly they are a better side than us
