Pace in a foot-race has nothing to do with how quick you play football. Look at Iniesta, he would lose most foot-races, but he'd beat anyone in terms of how quick and effectively he moves the ball about. Diaby is his complete opposite... at least most of the time. He dwells on the ball and gets dispossesed. The prime example was actually against Barcelona a couple of years back when Barca completely robbed him every time he got it.
Tbh I always rated Diaby but he never had a decent run before getting injured. He's like the bright kid at school that could amount to something but whose attendance record lets him down. Let's hope that his injury woes are behind him because, as Piskie implied in the OP, it really is last chance saloon for the big guy.
Do you not think that because of his poor fitness, his lack of confidence has led to him being conservative, which in turn has not allowed him to reach his full ability ? For me it's more an issue about Diaby being injury free
I can agree with that. Perhaps it will only take him a few games to get the confidence he needs to express himself, but it will be risky giving him that run of games in the league. Maybe better for the Cups, I don't know.
Yeah, I see what you are getting at, but I can't say I have ever seen that with him. I think, if anything, he is too direct and sets off up the field running into dead-ends.
