LR - the oil is owned by the British government who sell the rights to explore & obtain the oil to companies like Venoms.

Its then made in to gas & transported through the pipework across the UK.

Although its technically in Scottish waters its owned by the UK government so devolution would mean the end of the UK government so in theory perhaps Scotland could stake a claim for ownership?

The best bet would be to continue as normal though as all the infrastructure is in place.

I think Scotland should get the Falklands then you can go to war with Argentina - your bound to get a decent whack of the British military - I reckon fighter jets with the Saltire on them fighting those argies would be mega cool <ok>

so they'd own the oil, even if they havent found it yet, but not the territory (as its scottish waters/territory)? could a scottish government just say "well we wont let you drill through our rock to get your oil"?

at the minute we'd be due 2x artillery regts, 6x infantry battalions (3x light role, 2x armoured, 1x air assault), a tank regt and all the other stuff (logistics, int, air etc) as well as planes and a few dingys. a fight with argentina could be pretty close, it'd certainly make the news a bit more lively for you mick <ok>

If you get devolution I'd imagine that the oil deal will be a big part of the talks before its all signed off!! You'd have to agree to keep things as they are & work together to maintain the current infrastructure & process.

Oil from the North Sea raised £13billion in 2008 for the government. England are hardly going to allow you to stake a claim for it - you will have to waiver any right for that oil before devolution.

Isn't that basically what's happening at the Falklands in a sense?

I'd love to see a modern day battle of bannockburn or stirling bridge, then go down to York and burn the castle and rape the women <ok>
