I was playing there once and, as I went to retrieve a dead ball, there was a big flash and a bang. I turned round to see most of the players and the ref had been flattened by a lightening strike. Amazingly no-one was seriously hurt (ref had a small burn on the hand where he held his whistle) and we were able to carry on after a breather.
This was apparently Hulls first Railway Station, which was later used for goods. please log in to view this image
It wasn't used by people for very long, it opened in 1840, but by 1848 it had been replaced by Paragon and became goods only.
Yeah - just found it - it was Manor Street goods station. But now it's confusing: there were TWO Manor Street stations - one was Hull & Selby Railway (Kingston Street station); the other was MS&LR (English Street station). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manor_House_Street_railway_station

I couldn't find the thread where the building at the mouth of the river Hull was mentioned, but heading west, with the low sun, it looked smoke damaged. A closer look and it isn't, it's just an unfortunate effect of the contrasting colours and shadows near the black metal stairway and black edged windows, but it spoiled the effect it will have on visitors leaving the ferry that way. Hopefully it was just a combination of things today, or the developers know and can do something about it.

It's electrification from Hull to Selby that matters, the rest of the route is already electrified, the last I heard it was still about five years away.
My dads favourite pub; in 1971 he took me, and later on my younger brothers, in there for my first legal pint - it remains the best pint of hand pulled Tetleys I've ever tasted. I didn't dare tell him that for the past 18 months it had been one of the ''must call in'' places of the Old Town loop!
A bit of mess, but hopefully it will be worth it when it's finished... please log in to view this image I was down at the marina yesterday, there's still a big hole where the road used to be, it doesn't seem to have changed since the last time I was there (December), Humber Street is also completely closed off.
Bloody hell that's really much more disruption than I thought. Still, omelettes and eggs and all that.
My thoughts also. There seems to have been no progress around there at all.I biked to work through there in Dec. Ive been off all year but when i went for a walk last week it looks the same. It actually moves slower than the city centre works. On the other hand the work on the CD4I seems to move pretty quick. I wonder if theyre struggling to get tradesmen??
Has the COC works thread morphed into the 2020 thread due to a revised completion of works? Most the 2017 works seem like they won't be completed on time.
