I've been thinking for a while that maybe we got overexcited about Omur last season. I think most if us thought once fully fit he'd be a real force in this division, but he looks a long way short of that. He runs up blind alleys, he's easily forced off the ball, and he doesn't seem as alert to passing opportunities as someone like Palmer.
I agree. He looked half-decent last season and came with a decent reputation. He worked hard off the ball and has undeniable technical ability but he dawdles on the ball way too much and then gets shoved off it. He played in Turkey for the same club for years before coming here. He plays like he’s still playing for Trabzonspor. What I mean by that is that he thinks he has all the time in the world on the ball. You’ll see him turn one way, then another, then get shoved off the ball and we lose possession. You don’t get half as much time on the ball in the Championship as you do in the Turkish league. He hasn’t adapted to the tempo of English game yet.
I’m more settled on Tim than a few weeks ago. Hughes has made a big difference to tightening things up at the back and I think Puerta has also helped in this respect over the last few games. Tim has definitely set us up better and while we still play the ball about at the back it is far less ponderous than under Liam. Scoring goals is now the issue and we have relied on a bit of quality from out wide. We would definitely be a team in or around the play-offs with some quality up top. Our issue is that Bedia, Pedro and Burstow don’t seem to have a lot between them. As good as many of the new players have been, or are looking at the moment. Acun’s 8/10 rating for his window is looking more like a 5 for the huge hole he has left up front.
He was running towards their PA box to get them to play music, imagine the scenes of celebration we could have had with that. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
To recognise this monumental act of clairvoyance I've sent you a Toffee Apple, first class, recorded delivery
When he played last season he was usually in the top 3 of players (cant back that up with data but it seems like that) and many of us thought that he was going to be the main man this season. But I for one cant get over how poor he has been. He has shown nothing when he has played. I dont get it? What gone on.
I agree Kamara played well. Watched the full game and then the highlights last night. In the highlights Kamara shone, he created quite a few chances which were begging to be put into the net.
I guess the only copium I can muster is that Derby, despite how awful they played, have a knack for grinding out results at home so far this season. Anything less than a convincing win against rock-bottom Pompey and I’ll be very concerned.
I expected Ömür to fulfill a similar role László Bénes did for Hamburg under Walter as they have similar skill sets but he just hasn’t nailed down a place in the team.
Outside out of that first 20 mins I thought they were organised and did what they set out to do. Frustrate us and play for set pieces. Honestly better finishing and we are up 3-0
Bedia looks knackered and I dare say he’s carrying some sort of knock or muscle injury. A few weeks ago he never stopped running and was pressing all over. Last few games he’s started, he hasn’t pressed as much. I don’t know if that’s an instruction by the coach to sit a bit deeper so we can be more solid defensively (which we have been, credit to Walter) or if he’s just fatigued. He hasn’t looked particularly technical since he’s been here but his pressing was an asset. That game against Derby was crying out for us to press them aggressively. Derby don’t have the quality to play out against a high press.
