Quite possibly, although my point is that people looking to blame the players rather than the manager are being a bit disingenuous about Walter's role in the entire process.
I think he has a part to play but I think today for example was just a lack of cutting edge. Kamara's first half chance is a good chance he should have maybe done better with. Bedia could have scored. I dont think it was a lack of creating today which normally falls more on the system. Not to mention Pandur coming off his line potentially gifted them a goal
Ömür’s a tidy player and was decent for the second half of last season but he didn’t tear up the division, did he? Carvalho and Tufan were both more impactful. He’s been ineffective on the wing, ineffective in the middle etc. He’s offered nothing this season.
Where did you see he turned down loads of signings ? Who and where from ? I thought the brains team or Acun personally were doing them , make your minds up !
I imagine a lot of the transfer business (or lack of in certain areas) is why Kesler got his P45, amongst other reasons. A complete chancer. Acun’s hardly any better but at least it’s his money and business on the line.
Tan or acun said he was turning down 80% of the players taken to him or something like that. It was well discussed at the time.
I imagine it was a case of 'keeping in' with Man City and hoping he was going to progress with us. He hasn't had much of a chance yet and rightly so given who we signed since him.
Pandur is decisive and he comes for pretty much everything, but when he doesn't get there he ends up in no man's land. Pedro let the Derby youngster have a completely free header and didn't even challenge him, it was a pathetic effort. Had Bedia still been on the pitch, we don't concede that goal, big Chris was ineffective today but he's pretty decent in our own box. Back to Pandur, I thought he handled that short corner cock up with Slater really well. He was decisive and so was Slater, maybe we got a bit fortunate but it's a stupid predicament we keep putting ourselves in.
It's funny, on here a fair few were saying he'd replace Alfie. Said at the time it was an odd one and made no sense for a young CB to come in on loan as 4th choice.
Kamara will get assists playing on that left side. He's put several good balls in now, I think it's wrong to be talking about moving him to the right when he's doing that quite consistently. With Millar injured, we'll probably see more of Ömür on the left from time to time too. People won't like that idea but he's a good player and he can do a job in either position. The issue with him is his output, more than anything tactical. He has the ability but needs to find the ruthlessness. And I don't think he is any worse than last season, it's just that the new player shine has worn off and people are less patient now. Fin Burns is a backup and that's fine. When you sign 16 players some of them are going to be backups. He's probably a cheap way of having some cover in that position.
When you can only have a certain number of loanees in a matchday squad, wasting one spot on a young player who won't play much is a waste for all three parties. The loaning club will get annoyed he's not developing, and the player will be pissed off he's wasted a year.
I can understand the concerns about his development and what Man City think about that, but I really don't understand this recent thing of worrying about the number of loan spots. We signed as many loans as we wanted to. If it was a question of Burns or a decent striker then sure, but that doesn't seem to have been the case. Did we even take the maximum number of loan players?
You can have 5 in a match day squad and we have 5. Rushworth was another pointless one but he'll be gone now so that unintentionally opens a spot for January. I suspect burns will go back too.
This was the sort of game I half expected. 3 game week, and to make matters worse playing Wednesday rather than Tuesday evening players are liable to be fatigued, and for me, it showed. Most of the game was played at a pedestrian pace, which gave Derby time to get behind the ball. When Pandur for once throw the ball out quickly, we got up the field and scored. We have to do this more often, as passing around the back at a slow pace, just gives teams time to get back into position. Overall the back 4 did well, Hughes/Jones/Drameh played well again and Coyle was his usual steady self. Pandur unfortunately was at fault for the goal. Puerta must have wondered what had happened, I guess he will have never played 3 games in a week before, and he was clearly feeling the pace. I thought Simons was steady enough, scored a good goal, though I cannot understand why Zambrano is not playing, unless they have heard he is going to get an imminent ban and are allowing for this. Kamara had a good game, still looks a bit short of confidence, I wish he would lighten up and smile a bit, which might relax him a bit more. As it has been said, we really need a goalscorer, Bedia is okay, has more effect on the game that Joao Pedro. A bitter pill to swallow losing Millar for the season, he is a big loss. Anyhow, respect an away point, rest up and let's hope we can take Pompy to task.
One Derby fans described us and Oxford as ‘minnows’ , deluded arrogant fans at every club! I thought we played some good footie yesterday , some nice interplay but they sat deep and there was little room . Our biggest change would be getting the ball out and upfield quicker so we’d have more space before they settle . Derby were very negative at home hoping to catch us on an odd break . They only did it after their subs were put on when 1-0 down and that upped their energy . Don’t think I’d want Warne as my manager !
We did play some good footie yesterday, but we've become the side that needs to score at least twice in a game to win as we are hopeless at keeping clean sheets.
