Well it isn't looking so good for them I'll grant you.......It would be a pity for them to drop out all together. With all their History and trophies etc. Having said that though the likes of Accrington Stanley and a few others that helped form the football league all those years ago went out, and with them went their history. Would be such a shame for that to happen to Pompey...............................................................It would, wouldn't it?

If they promise to swap shirts at the end that might draw a few in?

Why? Because they're women? Because they're seen as having less worth than men? It's Southampton and it's Portsmouth, how is it not a derby?

Because they're not connected to Southampton Football Club?

Not officially, but not many women's teams are. officially connected with their men's team... does that mean they're not worthy of support? They still represent Southampton FC, even if there's no formal link.

You'll be pleased to know he doesn't.

One of our board members attended our last game though.

I am trying to get people to see the merits of women's football and not dismiss is and see it as inherently inferior, yes.

I don't dismiss it, but it is inferior to the football I watch by a million miles. I'd imagine it is probably better than the men's football you follow.

You CANNOT directly compare men's football with women's football because:

    1) There's far far fewer teams and players so their strength of depth is much less

    2) Partly as a result of 1) teams are competing in a small geographical area and against fewer teams, so less strength of competition

    3) 99% of players are part-time and train twice a week in an evening, how could you possibly compare it to men's football when every player in the football league and most in the conference national are full-time?

    4) There is much greater globalisation of players in men's football, the majority of players in women's football, even the top level are all British, rather than being a collection of 'in theory' the best players from around the world

Yes, in terms of skill whatever, the current circumstances mean the quality of women's football is lower, however there is no INHERENT reason why that is the case. They aren't worse simply because of the fact that they are women. Yes, women tend to be of slighter frame than men but that doesn't mean women's football is worse, there are other skills other than height and build.

Oh PL. Where do I start?
You've listed a load of points, none of which I mentioned. The only statement from me is that the football I watch is miles better - it is. No need for the reasons; it's better.

So I can only deduce that these derogatives of women's football are actually in your subconscious and you are fighting yourself. Your sentence at the end that starts "they aren't worse simply because they are women..." Is scandalous. I read not one comment even getting close to suggesting that. Nobody has these words or even implied words in any sentence on this thread. Are you imagining things? This really must be in your mind somewhere and you are trying to correct yourself.

You should be careful if this is the case.

I need to add, that I also pointed out that women's football is probably better than the men's football you follow.

I think you owe me a full and unreserved apology, for associating my comments with views against women's football.

Fine, men's football you watch is better, but it's a pointless comparison for the reasons I mentioned. It's like if you were conducting a scientific experiment, it would completely lack any scientific merit or rigour because you're comparing two completely different things.

That's the biggest load of bollocks I've ever read. No offense.

I was speaking in general terms. If you accept certain facts (i.e. the relative situation of mens and women's football), then women's football is not inferior because it's incomparable, the only way it could be considered inferior is if the reason for their perceived inferiority is because they are women, not due to any realistic reasoning as you would be denying the reality of men's and women's football. If you get what I mean.
