The busy christmas schedule see's us have our second consecutive home game in the space of 3 days as Derby County come to town. We sufferd our 5 home defeat on boxing day and our 3rd in a row as we went down 2-1 to Ipswich Town. Derby County also had a pointless boxing day as they suffered defeat at the hands of Burnley (2-0). The game earlier in the season at Pride Park saw us go down 3-2. We were 3-0 down with 20 minutes remaining when Green and Kermogant scored two quick goals to give us a slight chance at earning an unlikely draw however Derby were able to hang on until the end with Kerkar even having a header cleared off the line in injury time.

    Charlton Athletic's Home Form W3 D4 L5 F16 A19 PTS13

    Derby County's Away Form W3 D2 L7 F10 A21 PTS11

    Previous Meetings
18.09.2012 Derby County 3-2 Charlton Athletic
25.04.2009 Derby County 1-0 Charlton Athletic
15.12.2008 Charlton Athletic 2-2 Derby County
29.01.2002 Charlton Athletic 1-0 Derby County
20.10.2001 Derby County 1-1 Charlton Athletic

    Top Three Goalscorers-
    Charlton Athletic - Derby County
    4 Jackson - 9 Robinson
    4 Haynes - 5 Sammon
    3 Fuller - 5 Tyson

Team to play Derby County -
    Hamer

    Solly Morrison Cort Seabourne

    Haynes Stephens Pritchard Jackson Kerkar

    Hulse

    Subs
    Button
    Dervite
    Green
    Harriot
    Fuller
    Frimpong
    Wright-Phillips

We need to stop this mini rot we are in and get back on track with 3 points tomorrow. Derby are a side that we can beat if we turn up on the day. They have taken 6 points from a possible 15 this December and although we have only taken 2 points I can still see us winning this one although I would take a draw just to stop the series of the defeats at 3. As we all know a run of defeats can be extremely hard to get out of and needs to be stopped as soon as its began. This is why I've gone back to 4-5-1 as even though I'd love a win a draw would not be the end of the world.

Nice one, Belv. The team I'd like is:

    Hamer;
Solly, Cort, Morrison,Evina/Fox depending on fitness
    Wilson,Dervite,Pritchard,Harriott;
    Haynes,Kermit.

I think you've forgotten about Wilson!

I like your choices position by position, and they are all our own players, no loanees, so if successful it would be something to build on for the rest of the season. My only concern is it is an awful lot of changes to make at the same time. Still, we haven't got much to lose at present so why not give it a go.

I never know whether Belvedere's teams are what he expects CP to field, or what he would like to see himself, but either way I would have no confidence in his midfield five. Whereas Wilson and Dervite would give us some tackle power while Pritchard and Harriott harrass and chase.

Like I said, I would start with Fox and Harriott together. I think they would support each other tactically and psychologically. And if they fail, well, they are young enough for it not to be seen as rejection, (whereas Green getting the hook on Saturday can only be interpreted as a thumbs down and incentive to pack his bags). Need to try Fox now while CP has the justification that Evina is not match fit.

I'd go for this team too for all, the reasons Bill and Eddie have stated except I'd have Stephens in the midfield instead of Dervite. I'd want to find a place for Green but we've covered that one and I suspect he's off so I'll have to find another lost cause to support. I suspect that, in reality, the team will be nothing like this. Seabiscuit will probably play, as will Pingpong. The only cetainty is that Wilson will be back (hooray). Have to say, for the first time this season I really can't be arsed. It wouldn't take a Swedish nympho knocking at my door at 1300 saying "whack it up me big boy" to make me stay home. Out at a mate's 50th tonight so it may well be a heavy head situation in the morning. Had manflu all week and my mate who I go with is ill (more serious than manflu unfortunately) so I'll be on my Jack Jones. All things considered I could easily give this one a miss. I won't of course, just in case we win 6-0. Looking forward to seeing this Wunderkind that Derby have in the midfield.

Edit - pitch inspection at 0900. I gather its not looking good and the forecast is terrible.

FHB that looks like the sort of team that would work for me as well.
On the bench it would be nice to see Button, BWP, Frimpong, Jacko, Taylor, Fuller and Seabourn.

    ------------Hamer-------------
    Wilson---Cort---Morrison---Solly
    Green---Stephens--Frimpong---Cook
    -------BWP---Kermorgant---------

Subs: Button, Dervite, Seaborne, Pritchard, Jackson, Haynes, Fuller.

Bring on Haynes for the last twenty minutes or so. If our midfield is lacking any energy bring on Pritchard at half time.

    Brave man.

Dervite would always get my nod over Seaborne in the middle, classy player IMO.

As I said on the Ipswich thread, I believe Frimpong should be 'rested' for this game and then waved goodbye.

The pitch might be a bit wet tomorrow though... I bet Chris will play with two target men...
Also Pritchard will deffo play after his performance as a sub.
Morrison has been seriously out of form and has made bad mistakes.

I wonder whether Jackson could play the defensive midfield role? His lack of pace wouldn't matter in this position, and maybe his experience and intelligence could be used to solve our problem in this position. He's lost his goal threat, he's too slow to play LB, and he doesn't contribute much at LM, but maybe at this stage of his career it would be worth a shout playing him as defensive mid.?!

Pitch passed fit at 0900 but with significant concerns over heavy rain forecast from noon onwards. I can sense a late cancelation here folks.

Tough on the Rams fans if so - there's going to be 1000+ there, according to the fans at work.

Carl Boyeson is the ref today.

Anyone who remembers Huddersfield away last season will remember that this was the ref who sent off Daryl Russell yet failed to act on Antony Kay's retaliation / lunge on Waggy.

Players definitely need to stay on their feet today especially if the conditions wont bebgreat

How bad is the forecast for the Valley?

If it's as heavy as the Hull match this season, and starts at 2 or earlier, then yeah it could be off.
