Out of curiosity going forward Leeds have: Burnley - Jan 27th Sunderland - Feb 17th Sheffield Utd - Feb 24th And Burnley vs Sheffield Utd is later on April 21st. Would we rather Leeds best both Burnley and Shef Utd (and of course us beat Leeds) or for them to draw both? I can see the benefit to all 3 teams tripping up but with Leeds imo being the title favourites and hardest to catch - would it be more beneficial for the other 2 to drop maximum points?
Thought his wiki page said he's from Sheffield. My bad just looked it up, don't know where I got that from
Any outcome except Burnley and Sheffield United winning is good however I’d prefer two Leeds wins personally
Don't agree with that. Just watched it again this morning and its obvious from the linesman's body language when the goal goes in that he does not think its offside. He's heading back to the half way line making no attempt to flag for anything. Must have took a good 30 secs before he put his flag up. The referee also does not put his arm in the air for offside indirect free kick. Camera operating team will be looking for signs of it being disallowed. There were non. Both ref and linesman were heading back to the middle. No idea what went on but the ref changed his mind Why is anyone's guess. If they do make a statement it will be massaged to cover the refs arse. He has form for diabolical decisions this is just another one.
The linesman ran back to halfway and put his flag up, according to people at the game. Bear in mind linesman don't return to half way when there's a goal. They stay on the team's left back. The only reason the linesman would have to return to the half way line would be to put his flag up where the "offside" occured.
I'm absolutely certain it was because the other lino said that he was offside initially. Gobby ****e was doing most of the talking after the game. He made the call and the other two backed him.
That’s incorrect mate when a goal is scored the linesmen run straight back to half way with the flag down
Still absolutely boiling about that farce last night. I know it's stupid, but I don't feel like I celebrated the win as a result.
Water under the bridge now but Watch it again this is what he does he doesn't run immediately run back he tracks the left back. I think its fairly obvious from his body language that he thought it was a goal. Discussion must have went on between them and then he flags. Convinced that linesman does not think there is an offside.
Okay fair enough, I've never noticed that and was never told to do it when I ran the line back in the 2000s
That’s my point mate, we think we know what's best but we’re not involved in training drills, team discussions or tactics. We can all say what RLB should be doing because there are no consequences … … he puts his neck on the line with every decision. If he thought these ‘obvious solutions’ would make a difference he’d put them into play. There are clearly reasons he doesn’t but we've absolutely no idea what they are. Perhaps ELF has asked not to be played centrally, which carries more responsibility, until he’s used to how we play. Perhaps he doesn’t feel fully fit yet, perhaps perhaps perhaps. I choose not to agonise over these things because I don’t know the half of it … … that’s what we’re paying Reg for
I reckon he thought Isidor was offside originally (incorrectly) but thought that phase of play was over as the ball went to ELF. But then the ref decided it was the same phase of play and so he put his flag up. Just my assumption. They got it horribly wrong. Lets hope the promotion race doesn't go down to a single goal!!!
That seem the most logical explanation. But isn't it crazy that given the amount of media coverage everyone is still speculating. Refs get a lot of stick but a clear explanation even if its wrong would go a long way to helping their cause.
Interesting I wonder if it’s changed recently if you watch any goal back you’ll see the lino run. Here’s a clip where you can see the linesman, there’s a few more on that page but you can’t always see the lino hahaha
