I must admit, it feels like something could just happen here this season. I haven’t enjoyed watching the lads play as much as this in a long time. I think they are getting better too… I fancy us.
cheers again RTB... reet, have left this alone after the game as one thing was going to be talked to death, my opinion, at first i thought wilson was offside but ELF was first to the ball by which time wilson was in an onside position (few replays later and there was no offside at all) apparently it was disallowed because of a hand ball that none of the on field officials saw, so once again i have to ask 'what exactly IS a hand ball now?'...firstly, the ball was kicked onto him form about 10" away, secondly, his arm is at his side, thirdly he did not use his arm/hand to gain control of the ball (see first part), for a change we got the lucky deflection and scored, now i am sure there was discussion a couple of weeks ago about a hand ball and i seem to remember something that if the scorer has the ball come off his hand the goal is disallowed but if it was from the 'assist' then the goal stands (not sure if that is right mind) anyway we won and got the points. away support nothing short of absolute excellence, not the best game from the lads but some great football at times from jobe, niel, ELF, mayenda in particular...thought riggy was off the pace a wee bit trying to make things happen a bit too quick, hume seemed to 'drop off' when he was sat on 4 yellows and trying not to get the 5th and a suspension think they both need to take a deep breath, watch the game back and reset themselves. basically, none of the lads were terrible and they all played a part but my MotM is off to dan niel again, since his wee 'slump' early season he has really started to take control in the middle, touch and go between him and jobe mind. officials...nuff said i think, and i thought he was a decent ref from memory.
“Handled it” or “hit his hand”. As he did not score, it’s irrelevant the handball. Those are the new rules. Joelinton controlled a ball with his hand which was kicked from 10 yards away, then set up a goal. Le Fee may have had the ball hit his hand, but it was certainly not intentional and blasted from 2 feet away! If it did hit his hand, it did not go in as a result, so the point is completely null and void. Quite simply a disgraceful decision in every sense of the word
Match aside I just watched the on the road video I am absolutely baffled at the amount of stewards in that away end must almost be a one to one ratio of steward to fan
I agree, I can't understand how they have given it, especially after so long. There's an image of the ref signalling for an indirect freekick so it must've been given for offside (incorrectly by the looks of it). If it was handball it would've been a direct freekick, I believe it's only indirect if it's the keeper handling it in his area. If it was obstruction by Isidor it should've been a direct freekick if contact was made or indirect if no contact. Piecing it together it looks like they have judged Isidor to be offside from the initial pass, and then he became active when he collided with their player and prevented the defender attempting to get to the ball. That is when the (alleged) offence was committed which is also why they restarted play from just outside their area with an indirect freekick.
Been reading a Derby forum, I liked this comment. Comments like this from other clubs fans speaks volumes. We're in good hands.
Just watched highlights back, not sure who it is but when Isidor breaks and we’re saying to pass it the last Derby defender does a good job of covering the run and the pass, the pass from Isidor would have to be PERFECT fair play to him @Scout73 @Prehab26 dunno if you’s have seen it yet
Looking at the ref, looks like he told Isidor he was offside at the end (not an expert lip reader mind!). If that’s the case, then they’re cheating as it was given either by the linesman in the other half, or by the 4th official, neither of which are permitted to give offside in that half of the field, due to not being in line with the play.
Not long got home but Pre game I couldn’t give a ****e about the performance just needed the 3 points and we got them. Got to be more clinical and manage games better but we dont half dig in when our backs are against the wall. Not sure the shape worked first half? Jobe/neil/mep/patto the stand outs for me. Jobe is the best player at the club imo and neil is playing his best football in a Sunderland shirt that I can remember. The ref was a joke from derbys first goal kick when they started time wasting. The worst referee I’ve seen this season comfortably and will probably ‘win’ the worst decision of the year with the second goal. @Smug in Boots thanks again for going out your way to help me get a ticket. Had a great night (even though I was a touch nervy the last half hour but that’s Sunderland for you!) the atmosphere was quality and a win to top it off. HTL
As a side note i noticed the ref was from Sheffield. He’s also related to former Sheff UTD forward Wayne Allison. 2nd ref in 3 games that’s from Sheffield. https://x.com/wadesafc/status/1881824883828789372?s=46&t=26DLp2oXvFO7UDfe5HEPwQ
The game is corrupt. No decision from the officials until the defender started pecking the refs head and we had celebrated on the touchline. To have that many commentators and pundits have no clue as to why it was disallowed shows how dodgy it was. Thank god we got the win.
even in all the match reports, none can see why it didnt stand and that we cheated out of a 2-0 win, some even think we should lodge a complaint bet the EFL/the FA wont care and stand by the officals.
Would love to know what was said to Dan Neil when the Ref disallowed the goal... Dan looked really pissed off and rightly so. On Isidor he's had a rough few days on the pitch but doesn't sulk or hide, well done Wilson.
