Lets put to bed the question of long term history there is but one club in the league that played for almost 70 years in nothing but the top level of football and that team is Sunderland

You might be right. Like I said, I don't know enough about the long, long-term history of both clubs to make a proper judgement. We've both had big spells of success, but a century of football is a hell of a long time.

1.) Who is better as of this season? Can't say unless they have both been managed they same way.
2.) Who has the richer recent history? Neither have won anything.
3.) Who has the richer long term history? Good teams win leagues.
4.) Which club has the bigger fan base? NUFC give due to the profile of the city.
5.) Who has the better manager? MON is. Pardew struggled on the South coast, failed at WHAM, I can't think of anywhere where MON hasn't achieved anything of note.
6.) Who is the bigger club? At present NUFC given that they have done relatively well over the past 20 years.
7.) Which is the nicer city? (This clearly has nothing to do with football!) Newcastle has a nicer city centre. Both have their dives. But neither can match the splendour of Durham (a much smaller city).
