Until we get aliens with psychic "was that deliberate or not" mind powers refereeing games, all these new rules mean jack ****! It will still be inconsistent week in week out depending on what mood the ref is in that day, and depending on if or not his missus had a go at him before he left for work that morning.
http://www.skysports.com/football/n...lains-new-laws-ahead-of-premier-league-season A reminder of the new changes plus Dermot Gallagher's explanation of how they will work. It will be interesting to see how they are implemented in matches.
I did notice in the Heart-Celtic match on Sunday, that an injured player who had the physio on didn't have to wait off the pitch ... to the uproar of the Hearts fans and manager!! Might take some time getting used to.
In the Bilbao match, the ref made Virgil leave the pitch just to come straight back on....even though he'd been fouled. I was surprised, but now see the other player has to have received a card....not just to have committed a foul. Clear now.
Still don't like the penalty intentional or not one. Up to interpretation and will lead to even more incostincency.
Not really. That law is mainly for keepers who go for the ball but the striker just toes it past him and get brought down. Most defenders will still get sent off. If a defender goes in from behind when a striker is through in the box he still gets sent off. If he pulls him back he still gets sent off. From a referee's point of view it's normally fairly obvious when someone makes a genuine attempt for the ball and when they are just trying to bring someone down.
There might be a reasonable argument not to have a sub goalkeeper any more now that they will pretty much never be sent off. I can't find any stats to back this up yet though.
That might have been the intention, but I think reality will be different. Very few red cards will be shown if it is a penalty.
This is what I think will happen. Can also see a lot of appeals going through cos players can claim they tried to play the ball and it will be difficult to prove otherwise in a lot of cases.
We shall see I guess. Either way I still don't agree with the change, there was no need. So maybe I am just hoping it will fail.
Or mastery of the "Fonte point" at the ball, which is nowhere near what he has just caused to happen.
Is this right Tom, or your understanding? Not sure there can be a law that is "mainly" for anyone. It's either a rule or it's not. Seems odd that.
OK, it was the main reason why the law was introduced.Obviously the law applies to everyone but it was mostly goal keepers who were getting sent off for simply mistiming a tackle.
