His passing is awesome as long as he's three feet away. Never fails. My issue with him has been his work ethic and the pace of his game. If he can at least sort out the first bit then he'll be better than a few of the options we're currently relying on. Far from ideal though.
The problem is, he's never really played the Fabs role for us properly, he has always been the DM. He has a decent shot but again, he never really plays in an attacking sense so we really can't tell. Also, his passing is decent but not spectacular. Will he be able to assist the attack well enough? Is he better than Ramsey, Benni or Arteta? In my opinion, not really. But the way things are going and the way these players get injured, i don't think Arsenal have many options either way.......
I seem to have a hazy recollection a few years ago that there were glimpses of his potential and recall seeing him perform well enough that I looked forward to seeing him in acrion. He filled in well for Cesc Fabregas in the final months of 2008 when the latter was out and while was himself sidelined for two months in 2009, returned to score some very nice long range goals from outside the penalty box for us, including one against Standard Liege on his 100th appearance for the club. The coming of Super Jack Mk1 meant that he had little time on the pitch, starting only 6 EPL games and coming on as a substitute in a further 10. I think in a way like Bendtner, insufficient playing time accounted for an inability and lack of opportunity to hone and show his skills. Who knows what the future may hold? I suppose we won't know till we try.
He's not quick. Nor do we have the likes of Nasri or Cesc to pick up on it any more. Aaaaahhhh, if he returns it won't be the end of the world but I certainly don't see a sudden upturn in our form.
Why not play Arshavin in the center guys? I really don't know why Wenger doesn't do this.........It also give Myaichi an opportunity on the left!
Really? I thought that was obvious! Very, very desperate indeed. Lazarus - been saying that to a chap at work for ages. He insists it wouldn't work as he's lazy but I maintain it would as he'd have to be involved then. He's so talented, just a bit of an enigma of a player.
He doesn't have to track back as much playing as an AM than he has to do playing left wing. Also having someone like Frimpong protecting him would help massively. We won't know unless he's been tried....Arshavin is being wasted in my opinion, he's still very good, we just haven't got the best of him. On a side note, playing a proper hard working left winger like Miyachi would help us defensively. He would also cover Gibbs/Santos's runs on the wings that Arshavin fails to do.
I wouldn't be averse to seeing Arshavin given a chance in MF in place of Ramsey, who has failed to shine a bit so far this season. A MF of Song, Arteta & Arshavin could be very creative. Gervinho & Theo on the wings with Oxo & Miyaichi makes for strong amounts of creativity and goal-scoring potential. Would also leave Ramsey as a capable backup alongside Benayoun & Rosicky.
There has to be some reason why he's never been used there before though. I don't know what it would be but why else would Wenger never have tried it? Let's try and avoid the 'he's past it crap' because he works with these players day in day out so knows what they should be able to do.
I was thinking the same thing but then again, he puts some of his players in places where they shouldn't be. An example is playing Bendner on the wings, Eboue on the wing, Walcott on the wing, Nasri on the wing etc. I know there are limited positions so why buy so many players that play in the center? Also doesn't Arsh play in the middle for Russia?
not a single epl club came in for this muppet when he was available, for some bizare reason arsenal decided award him a bumper long term contract that basicaly means we cant get rid of him cos he is currently being paid about 5x his worth, he is championship standard at best.
This kid is good. how about return of certain Sir Thierry? you could do well with the legend back - people talk about Becks return.. few days ago scored a wonderful goal against LA Galaxy at NYC. He still got it !!
