Jol's response to being asked about Dempsey's statement (the highlight is mine) :

Ahead of the match this week, Dempsey said he didn't feel "valued and appreciated" at Fulham and that was why he had to move on.

In response, Jol says Fulham did everything in their power, including telling Dempsey that he loved him.

"We did everything we could do so there are no regrets," Jol said. "He wanted to be appreciated financially and he wanted a bigger club, a Champions League club, and that is what he probably got with Spurs. He didn't feel appreciated financially, but I am not the one deciding over the contracts.

"He said it time after time again that he wanted to go to a Champions League club. Even when I said in my last conversation with him that I loved him, it was not good enough to keep him here."

Dempsey was heavily linked with a switch to Liverpool after enjoying his most successful season for Fulham, but with the Cottagers angry over the Reds' public courtship of their leading scorer, he ended up making the shorter move to north London instead.

Asked if there was anything Fulham could have done to get make him stay, Jol shook his head at today's press conference and said: "No, no. You know what he wanted. He wanted to go to a Champions League club. If you feel appreciated, you would like maybe to stay at Fulham so there is a contradiction there. I think he felt loved but he still wanted to move, but of course I understand what he means. From the first day he came back from holiday he didn't want to play here. He wanted to move so of course you can force the issue and then come up with things. But hopefully he will get over it and hopefully he will feel loved at Spurs."

Got to love the Big Man

"But hopefully he will get over it and hopefully he will feel loved at Spurs."

A sarcastic Dutchman.

There are some universal laws like - the sun rises in the East, the animals went in 2 by 2 in the Ark, night follows day and I always sleep on the right side of the bed. Some footballers will always, I repeat always, think they are bigger than the club. Dempsey in no different!

Sidders to dish out some TLC on the unloved American in the 10th minute? A little welcome back to the cottage from everyone who loved you, kinda thing!

Jol just had to respond to this. But I don't think FFC fans needed him to. It was nice when Jol and some other players spoke out to deny Zamora's claims that the FFC squad don't like Jol, but we already knew this was nonsense anyway. Etuhu left under somewhat or a cloud, as did AJ, but I don't think either would get a negative reception were they to make an appearance at Craven Cottage, Dempsey will because not his departure, but the manner of which, cuts deep. The guy was a cult hero and we wouldn't be giving such a negative reception had he not been adored here. If he was under appreciated at FFC, we simply wouldn't care that or how he left.

I agree that a line needs to be drawn under this and only re-opened if Dempsey scores against us and celebrates by punching Martin Jol.

If it was any other club than us, I'd kind of like to see that, sort of. Does that make me a bad person?

I'd like to see it mainly because I think Jol and Berbatov would sit in Jol's office afterwards in their suits, smoking some cigars, planning sweet revenge. Possibly a fatal bear hug for Clint? Or a horse's head in Dempsey's locker?

Dempsey wouldn't stand a chansh yesh !

The only way I can see it going tomorrow is a bad response from a lot of Fulham fans towards Dempsey. Not on the same level I appreciate, but look at the Pog's response away at Reading a few months back, his departure was no-where near as child-like as Dempseys 'refusal' to play
