Thanks for the info Manobear and DR. I used to be a big fan of Frasier. Less so of Starbucks but its hard to avoid these days...
Demps is missed by FFC and it was a pity to see him leave, especially to Spurs. I don't think Spurs really needed him and it's a real shame to see him leave the PL. I wish him well as he was a fantastic player for us and perhaps deserves more.
Well I still wish Clint well back on his side of the pond. He left us with some great memories - Juventus, Chelsea etc It was a pity that he left us to go to Spurs, where he was totally wasted, and the manner of his leaving thanks (!) to agents, RedScouse etc and generally silliyness in the money-lead PL. Frankly, we tempered our team shape for him Demps, so he could not come back. He may have been bigger fish in a relatively small pond, but Fulham was the highlight of his adventure in Europe. So he leaves the UK with our best wishes and (ignoring the boo boys) will always be welcomed back.
I just read that 66,000+ people are expected to see Dempsey's home debut in Seattle in two weeks, that's the level of excitement he's brought to the team and city. I find this remarkable. Ten years ago, when I moved to Europe, the biggest US football stars could walk through any airport without a single soul asking them for an autograph ... things have changed.
I'm sure, given his pay and status over there, he's not too unhappy but I suspect there will be a lingering disappointment that he wasn't deemed good enough for the CL by English clubs. He's got the option to go on loan in the off-season so he might still get his chance. Good luck to him and all but he brought this on himself- for CL teams to really take notice he needed to perform at the level he did that season for a bit longer- if he'd stayed with us he would have got the gametime and been in a team built around him and might possibly have got his move if his form kept up.
Yeah we've come along way over here, although there was a photo about a year in one of the popular gossip magazines with David Beckham, Russell Brand, and Robbie Keane at a Los Angeles Laker game. The magazine had Robbie Keane listed as "unknown fan." This was in the city Robbie Keane now plays in professionally an people still don't recognize him!
