tbh it's a bit beyond my knowledge I just remember the Bosman ruling because FIFA's transfer regs went agasinst a workers freedom of movement within the EU.

Maybe Pardew's heard we're leaving and he's getting his French team together before the rules alter <laugh>

Quote from Pardew in 2006 -
“I saw a headline saying Arsenal are flying the flag for Britain,” he said.
“I kind of wondered where that British involvement actually was when I looked at their team.
“It’s important that top clubs don’t lose sight of the fact that it’s the English Premier League and English players should be involved.”
Pardew added: “Foreign players have been fantastic. We have learned from them and from foreign coaches.
“But, to some extent, we could lose the soul of British football – the English player.
“We have a young team at West Ham and we are proud we have so many Englishmen.
“The soul of this team will remain with at least three or four English players as long as I am West Ham. I think that’s important, I really do.”

I saw a breakdown of the figures by Match Day, Broadcasting and Commercial revenue.

Liverpool and Bayern Munich were pretty neck and neck in terms of match day and broadcasting revenue but BM had over £100m more in commercial revenue!!

There has been a lot of talk about the financial health of the Bundesliga and their ability to offer cheap tickets, and buy expensive players - this seems to stem from the commercial deals. Does anyone know how they are able to negotiate such large deals?

4. I remember only being allowed three foreigners but what does two assimilated players mean...?

I think it means foreign young players who have come from your Academy. I suppose it could also mean foreign players that you have bought who have plied their trade in this country for at least a specified number of years eg Hamman

Assimilated players are foreign nationals who have joined a clubs academy at some point in their youth development & then go on to play in that clubs first team.

Dave's right - Assimilated players were foreign players who continuously played with a national association for five years. Three of those five years on a junior team, it didn't have to be all at one club but it had to be for the same national association.

The abolition of the 3+2 meant that clubs could go and 'steal' young foreign talent instead of investing in their own academies. We're paying the price of that now.

Wrong. In fact 02/03 was the only time before and during Abramovich we had dropped out of the list.

10. Would you not have gone bust or, at the very least, into administration had Roman not saved your arses?

Risky business that DL. Leeds are the perfect example. Had they continued to qualify who knows.

13. Scraped in, aging players and a lack of matchday fans (size of stadium more than anything) to support ongoing costs? You needed CL to just break even, it would have only been a matter of time.

We broke the record for matchday revenue in the game against you and our average attendance was the largest in London. We'd have needed CL for the next 3/4 seasons to be okay IMO. Bates said something along those lines anyway.

15. Did you believe everything Bates told you? <laugh>

I was having a pop at Chelsea, I was merely pointing out that you needed (and still do) a bigger stadium <ok>

TBH, I don't know enough about the situation but I know there have been many many accusations that Roman saved the club from a ticking financial time bomb.

Nah Bates was a loony but he'd have no reason lie, and I'm sure his words in his autobiography can be backed up.

It's okay, I find the Liverpool board one of the best for grown up and intellectual debate, along with the Spurs and QPR boards.

Spends half his time slagging Liverpool off and then tries to suck up to you.

Stalking me on here as well?

Most of the time I spend is on the Chelsea board and I've written threads on here praising Liverpool. I had a recent spat with Sisu by which I used Liverpool as ammunition to antagonise him but lets not make things up here.

Unlike most Chelsea fans, I am fairly impartial to Liverpool, especially as Rafa is no longer with them and Rodgers is there.

Seriously UIR, this behaviour isn't normal. You need help.

Seriously? The only time you suck up to Liverpool is when you are trying to have a dig at United. Same goes for Arsenal, Spurs, QPR and City.

Anyway, pop over to the United board and share with us your wisdom, we are dying to hear what you come up with next <laugh>
