English players may be the "masters" of diving, says Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. Tottenham's Dele Alli was booked for diving in Sunday's draw at Liverpool. Team-mate Harry Kane was accused of diving by Reds defender Virgil van Dijk in winning a penalty. Wenger said: "I remember there were tremendous cases here when foreign players did it, but the English players have learned very quickly and they might even be the masters now." The Frenchman said in November that Raheem Sterling "dives well"following Arsenal's 3-1 defeat at Manchester City. Wenger, whose side face Spurs in the Premier League at Wembley on Saturday, said: "I don't tell my players to dive at all. We have to get diving out of the game. "Sometimes players play a little bit with the rules. How far can you go? That is down to the referees." On Tuesday Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said diving was a "minimal issue" in football, and that "tricking" an opponent was now part of the game. This season the Football Association introduced new regulations to retrospectively ban players who dive. A panel is tasked with looking for cases of simulation by reviewing footage every Monday, and any player found guilty is suspended. In October Carlisle United forward Shaun Miller became the first player to be banned, for two games. Everton striker Oumar Niasse was the first Premier League player to be suspended - also for two matches - in November. Niasse, 27, was charged following an incident during a 2-2 league draw at Crystal Palace. A penalty was given after he was adjudged to have been fouled Scott Dann. Leighton Baines converted the spot-kick and Niasse later scored to earn Everton a point. In 2012 former England striker Michael Owen blamed "the influence of players coming from South America, Spain and Italy" for the growth of diving in English football.
Absolutely right. Lets take the high ground here. And you guys can do that no problem. I'm sure I can recall when you guys were all up in arms when Liverpool topped the simulated bookings table a few years ago. I was so proud of the scousers marching on the ground demanding their players stop doing it.
Nope. I'm just saying everyone does it, even Liverpool players. There's no high ground here. Personally I'd like to see red cards for diving, not yellow. We might see a few strong incredibly athletic footballers managing to stay on their feet when an opponents shirt wafts against them.
Couldn't agree more, retrospective bans for me is the only way, I think straight reds on the pitch could lead to all kinds of incidents so I'd say let a panel look at all games and dish out 3game bans for a 1st offence 6games for a 2nd in a season and so on.
Alli was fouled today and it was a pen, but he still threw himself to the ground like a ****ing pansy. He has previous in this area as is now well documented. He needs a long ban for his cheating, otherwise he's just going to carry on with these antics.
Yeah, it was a penalty this time round. Just seen a replay. But players get reputations for a reason. Give them a red card for simulation. The **** they'll get from their managers for being sent off for blatant cheating will eventually work through. At the moment their managers are encouraging them to cheat because all they get is a yellow at worst.
Pooch came out publicly and condoned Alli's diving. Terrible attitude to take with a young developing player at the best of times, but one with such a high profile who already has a reputation for diving ? Madness. As you say, only a long ban will stop the likes of Alli trying to con the ref each week.
A red card wouldn't work because they'd never get given. As a ref you'd have to be literally 100% sure to send a player off so I think it'd be rarely given. I'd increase the retrospective ban to 5 games, managers would soon tell their best players to not do it. It's also ****ing ridiculous that if you're booked you can't get punished retrospectively... that should change.
I, like every other Spurs fan I know condemn Dele for diving, but it seems that there is more denial from fans of other clubs about their own serial simulators. I don’t see Chav fans condemning Hazard, Willian and Pedro, or Manure fans for any of theirs. Arsenal have a history of cheats as have Liverpool. Why is the emphasis on Dele?
because the level of everyones divers are probably at Kanaldos level. Alli does it week in week out and not only dives, actively goes and injures people when he's not happy or when the spuds aren't winning
